Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Amilton Mello (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samuel Barbieri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mello's entrance music is Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse . A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Amilton Mello!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Samuel Barbieri!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Daniel Cesar and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Mello looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Mello darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Mello prevents Barbieri from improving his position.
Mello controlling the action here.

Mello postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Barbieri to stand up.

Barbieri drives through and clinches with Mello against the cage.
Mello misses with a hook from the clinch.
Barbieri is trying to drag Mello to the mat but Mello just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Mello tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Barbieri smiles and moves away.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Barbieri scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Barbieri trying to mount his opponent but Mello defends it.
Mello is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are battling for position here. Mello manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Mello working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Barbieri doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Barbieri manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Mello is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mello looking to hit a scissor sweep but Barbieri is one step ahead there.
Barbieri stops Mello from standing up.

Barbieri decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Mello shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Barbieri can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mello controls the pace.
Mello is breathing heavily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mello avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Barbieri throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Barbieri is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Barbieri is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mello wants to control from the top but Barbieri keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Mello content to stall in guard here.
Barbieri is looking to stand up but Mello isn't so interested in that idea.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Mello fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Barbieri shoots in and bounces Mello off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Mello keeping moving, preventing Barbieri from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Amilton Mello will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Barbieri misses with a takedown attempt
and Mello counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Barbieri is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Mello feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Barbieri's calf.

Barbieri closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Mello lands with a short head shot on the inside.

Mello has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Barbieri regains guard immediately.
Mello stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Barbieri swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mello is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Barbieri is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mello trying to control but Barbieri is working from the bottom.
Barbieri working a defensive guard but Mello manages to pass into side control anyway.
Mello wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barbieri keeps working.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Mello shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mello landing punches.
Mello lands a nice shot to the head.

Mello looking to isolate an arm here. Barbieri doesn't see it coming and as Mello extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Mello!
