PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marco Polo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rodrigo Andreas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Marco Polo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rodrigo Andreas!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Andreas fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Andreas shoots in but Polo avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Nice sprawl there from Polo as Andreas shoots in.
Marco Polo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rodrigo Andreas.
Polo lands with a nice body kick.
Polo doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Andreas counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Polo is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Andreas's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Andreas's back!
Polo keeps control of the position as Andreas tries to break free.
Andreas manages to reverse the position and now he's in Polo's guard. Nice work there by Andreas.
Polo manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Andreas manages to get himself to full guard.
Polo passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Polo wants to control but Andreas is keeping him busy.

Andreas is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Andreas manages to get back to half guard.
Polo is keen to just control but Andreas is a slippery customer.

Andreas actively working from the bottom here.
Polo knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Andreas on the ground.
Andreas looks gassed!

Polo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Polo closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Polo lands in his opponent's guard.

Polo throwing strikes from guard but Andreas blocks nicely.

Andreas isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Polo stacks Andreas on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Polo!
Polo in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Polo tries to stand but Andreas is controlling his head.
Andreas manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Polo tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Polo with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Andreas looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Polo wants to pass to mount but Andreas is defending the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Andreas moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Andreas had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Polo is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Andreas Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Polo's back instead.
Andreas doesn't have the hooks in and Polo manages to turn into his guard.

Andreas working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Polo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Polo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Andreas working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Polo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Polo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Marco Polo will probably get the nod.
That's time! Polo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Andreas counters with a single leg into guard. Polo didn't expect that.

Andreas is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Polo is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Polo has escaped and now he's on top!

Andreas is looking for a triangle here but Polo uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Polo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Andreas keeps working.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Andreas tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Polo presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Andreas tries to reverse the position but Polo maintains control.
Polo wants to control the pace but Andreas is squirming around nicely.
Andreas is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee warns Andreas that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Polo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Polo throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Andreas bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Andreas postures up.

Andreas drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Andreas as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Polo screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Andreas! Nice submission victory there!
