PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mego Kong Ho Chai (ranked 2395 p4p, 4057 weight class) and Alejandro Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Mego Kong Ho Chai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Alejandro Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Chris Edwards and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez circles away from the clinch attempt.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Sanchez is looking to advance position but Chai won't allow it.
Chai wants to improve his position but Sanchez is controlling well.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Sanchez wants to free his trapped foot but Chai is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Sanchez is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Mego Kong Ho Chai is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sanchez throws a right hand that Chai ducks under and follows up with a left that Chai also avoids with ease.

and Chai makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Sanchez really felt that one!

Alejandro Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Sanchez is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Chai doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Sanchez.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sanchez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Sanchez closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Chai to the mat! Chai manages to get full guard.
Chai not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Chai tries to throw a body punch but Sanchez avoids it by throwing Chai back against the cage.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sanchez is trying to maintain a safe position but Chai gets an underhook and turns Sanchez into the cage.

Mego Kong Ho Chai has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alejandro Sanchez.

Sanchez jumps guard but Chai stands there with Sanchez around his waist. Sanchez gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Chai swings wildly with an uppercut but Sanchez uses good head movement to avoid it.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sanchez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Chai gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Chai has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Chai got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sanchez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Chai has managed to get both his arms back between Sanchez's legs - danger averted.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sanchez is on top in guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sanchez looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Chai knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sanchez on the ground.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sanchez wants to pass the guard but Chai is keeping the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mego Kong Ho Chai dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Alejandro Sanchez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Chai misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

and Chai counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Sanchez on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Chai scores with the left hand. Sanchez knows he should have avoided that one.

Chai gets caught napping as Sanchez dives in and scores a takedown. Chai manages to retain guard.
Sanchez wants to control from the top but Chai keeps moving.
Alejandro Sanchez has got the better of the ground game so far.
Chai can't keep his opponent in guard - Sanchez advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sanchez with the ground and pound but Chai uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Sanchez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chai swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Sanchez controls from within his opponent's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Chai works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Chai tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Sanchez moves into the clinch.
Sanchez blocking some punches.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mego Kong Ho Chai showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Chai has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
