The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mebab pushes Valdez up against the cage in a clinch.
Valdez prevents the takedown attempt.
Mebab is working for takedown but Valdez is calmly controlling the position for now.

Valdez breaks the clinch.

Mebab closes the distance and clinches.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Mebab.
Valdez blocks an uppercut.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Mebab has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Valdez can't break the clinch.
Valdez misses with a knee to the head.
Valdez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Valdez wants to stall.

Mebab tightens his grip and picks Valdez up, before dumping him to the ground. Valdez manages to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mebab working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Valdez's head.
Mebab distracts Valdez with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Mebab makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Mebab throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Valdez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Mebab has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Mebab postures up in Valdez's guard and throws a big left but Valdez blocks it.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mebab has hold of Valdez's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Valdez seems comfortable defending it but Mebab has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Valdez is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Valdez is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Mebab couldn't care less - he's delighted!
