Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jon Meril (ranked 1030 p4p, 4341 weight class) and Jake Simon (ranked 80 p4p, 272 weight class). Meril comes to the cage accompanied by YEAT - Get Busy. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Meril!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jake Simon!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Ian Loll and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters are only really looking to counter, so after a good 30 seconds of circling each other endlessly, the referee has stepped in and told them both to be more aggressive.
Simon with a poor takedown
and Meril counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Meril scores with a one two! Simon had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Meril stuns Simon with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Simon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Meril but Meril pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Meril throws a big counter combination but Simon scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

No joy there for Meril, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Meril's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Meril duly obliges.

Meril scores with a hook to the body. Simon takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Meril digs a right hand into Simon's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Simon's gas tank.

Meril looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Meril throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Simon is trying to pull guard but Meril has him pressed against the cage.

Simon jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Meril walks away with a smile on his face. Simon gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Meril counters with a series of strikes. Simon will be more careful next time no doubt.
Meril is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Simon can do to turn this around?

Meril lands a two punch combo.

Meril works Simon's body with a nice hook.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Simon closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Meril quickly recovers to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Simon has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Simon is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Meril has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Meril!

Meril is looking to stand up but Simon won't let him.
Simon is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Simon can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Meril postures up.
Simon has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Simon's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Meril lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jon Meril showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Meril, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
