Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gilbervan Soares (ranked 994 p4p, 1008 weight class) and Derrick Barnes (ranked 138 p4p, 142 weight class). Barnes is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: We Want The Funk. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gilbervan Soares!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and George Francis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barnes throws a nice looking combination but Soares bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Barnes has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Soares looks to score with a jab to the body but Barnes is just out of range.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Barnes is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Soares is defending well.
Barnes wants to take the fight to the mat but Soares manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Soares lands a body shot in the clinch.
A short left from Soares.
Barnes goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Barnes is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Soares is defending well for now.
Soares lands with a light punch inside.
Barnes can't get the takedown.
Soares has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Gilbervan Soares has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Derrick Barnes .

Soares has Barnes pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Soares pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Barnes tumbling to the mat - Soares dives into Barnes 's guard.
Soares trying to control the position from guard on top but Barnes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Soares has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Barnes is pulling down on Soares's head to control his posture.
Soares is in close to Barnes 's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Soares controls from within his opponent's guard.
Soares lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Barnes trying to keep a closed guard but Soares is proving a slippery customer.
Soares postures up and lands a big shot to Barnes 's brow.
Soares looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Soares cracks Barnes with a solid left hand.
Soares lands a couple of digs.

Soares trying to control but Barnes is working from the bottom.
Soares chips away with some ground and pound.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Soares is pushing down on Barnes 's leg trying to pass to half guard. Barnes is fighting to maintain full guard but Soares has managed to sneak the leg through.
Barnes manages to get to full guard.
Soares postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Barnes wants to sweep but no luck.
Soares wants to control from the top but Barnes keeps moving.

Soares drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Soares jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Soares content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Soares with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Soares's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Barnes is rocked!
Soares distracts Barnes with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Barnes is still in real trouble! Can Soares finish him?
Soares sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Barnes 's guard.
Soares scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Soares lands a big elbow - Barnes is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Soares!
