PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Paul Kings (ranked 634 p4p, 782 weight class) and Putte Ro (ranked 47 p4p, 60 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paul Kings!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Putte Ro!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kings jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Ro fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Ro checks a leg kick nicely.
Ro scores with a jab. Kings acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Ro moves away from the strike by Kings.
Kings misses with an uppercut. Ro saw that one coming.
Ro throws an overhand right that lands on Kings's shoulder, as Kings tries to avoid the shot.
Ro misses with a hook.
Kings motions for Ro to come forward. Kings throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Kings misses the jab.
Ro with the counter takedown but Kings avoids it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kings pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ro lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Kings at a distance.
Ro just misses with a punch to the body.
Ro walks into a left hand.
Ro gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Kings throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
It seemed like Ro was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Kings throws out a loose jab but Ro uses good head movement to avoid it.
Ro dodges the punch combination from Kings.
Ro cracks Kings with a right hand to the side of the head.
Kings throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Ro tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Kings staying out of range there.
Kings throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Kings throws a body shot but no joy.
Nice body punch from Ro.
Kings thows a leg kick but Ro checks it

so Ro counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Kings not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ro landing with the ground and pound.

Kings lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ro working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kings doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kings manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Ro is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Ro is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Ro thows a huge punch but Kings dodges it nicely.

Kings is staying active underneath Ro, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kings is looking for a sweep. Ro is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Kings has hold of Ro's hands but Ro slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Kings is trying to get back to full guard.
Ro thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Ro looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Kings wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ro lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Kings tries to get to full guard but Ro has control of the leg.

Ro is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Kings is trying to get back to full guard.
Ro uses his free foot to push down on Kings's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Kings.
Kings bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

A close round but Putte Ro will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Ro moves in looking to clinch but Kings pushes him off.
Kings throws a hook but Ro avoids it easily.
Kings throws a lazy head kick

and Ro counters with a nice double leg into side control. Kings won't be happy with that.
Ro is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Kings will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Kings is working to avoid the ground and pound but Ro connects with a decent elbow.
Kings tries to bench press Ro off him but Ro keeps the position.
Kings is working hard here to advance position.
Kings manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Ro moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Ro keeping moving, preventing Kings from controlling successfully.
Putte Ro has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kings stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ro swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ro avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Kings.

Kings looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Kings thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Ro sneaks back into half guard.

Kings is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Kings wants to pass the guard but Ro is defending well.
Ro trying to hold on to Kings's head to control him but Kings postures up.
Kings is trying to control. Ro wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Ro is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Ro works his way to full guard. Good work.

Ro is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Ro landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kings is looking to improve his position.
Ro working over Kings with some ground and pound. Kings looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Well, if Ro is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Kings is refusing to be controlled, as Ro sits in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ro might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kings haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Ro is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Kings is trying to get back to full guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Kings is looking for a sweep. Ro is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

A telegraphed right hand from Kings misses the target.
Kings misses with a hook. Ro ducked under it nicely.
Kings tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ro was well out of range. Poor timing from Kings.

Ro scores with a takedown into Kings's guard.
Kings keeping full guard, as Ro tries to pass.
Ro slips nicely into half guard.
Kings makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kings.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ro looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kings with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ro in particular looking to stall.

Kings is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ro pulls his head out easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kings taking some punishment here, with Ro in his half guard.
Ro drops an elbow to the side of Kings's head.

Ro has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Ro seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kings does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Kings drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kings jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Putte Ro is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Kings throws an elbow that misses. Ro uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kings's guard. Nice move by Ro!

Putte Ro comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Ro winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
