Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paulo Kogos (ranked 1036 p4p, 1862 weight class) and Pudd Nelson (ranked 157 p4p, 258 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Kogos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pudd Nelson!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Nelson. Kogos does a little dance to reset his feet.
Kogos is looking to counter the offense by Nelson and move into the clinch.

Nelson clinches up with Kogos and pushes him back against the cage.
Nelson lands a hook that snaps the head of Kogos backwards.
Kogos lands with a light punch inside.
Kogos lands a nice shot to the body.
Nelson is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Kogos to keep the fight standing.
Nelson fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
I was talking to Kogos's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Nelson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kogos throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kogos takes a jab right on the kisser.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Nelson.
Kogos is looking to counter punch.

Nelson is looking to clinch.

Nelson has closed the distance and engaged Kogos in a clinch.

Nelson breaks from the clinch.
Nelson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kogos manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Kogos swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
The fight stays on the outside here - Nelson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kogos attempts a counter takedown but Nelson avoids it well and moves away.
Nelson is looking to clinch but Kogos is avoiding it.
Kogos tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Nelson manages to circle out of the way.

Nelson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kogos paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Nelson on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Kogos trying to control the action but Nelson is working from the bottom.
Kogos lands a nice forearm strike.
Nelson sneaks back into half guard.
Kogos lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Nelson is trying to get back to full guard.

Nelson is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kogos pulls his head out easily.

Nelson is not content to let Kogos control the position.
Kogos lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Nelson has hold of Kogos's hands but Kogos slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Kogos wants to take a breather but Nelson is having none of it.
Kogos is looking to advance position but Nelson won't allow it.
Kogos lands with a punch from half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nelson is rocked!
Nelson felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Nelson wants to get back to full guard.
Kogos drops an elbow to the side of Nelson's head.
Kogos is thwarting Nelson's attempts to control the position.
Kogos is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Nelson looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Kogos working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Nelson is still in real trouble! Can Kogos finish him?
Nelson slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Nelson seems to have recovered his senses.

Nelson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kogos can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Nelson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Kogos makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Kogos chips away with some ground and pound.
Kogos lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Kogos is working Nelson over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kogos postures up and lands a big shot to Nelson's brow.
Kogos postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Nelson covers up, he's hurt! Kogos keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Kogos and the ref steps in to end the fight! Kogos can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Paulo Kogos!
A determined Paulo Kogos didn't want to dwell on this fight in his post fight interview. Instead he was more keen to state he wants a title shot. Let's see if he gets it!
