PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andre Hofmann (ranked 4142 p4p, 5760 weight class) and Alex Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Perez has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Andre Hofmann!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alex Perez!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Russell Pearce and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Perez tries to sprawl but Hofmann drives through with a takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hofmann could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Hofmann tries to stand and escape but Perez actually recovers to full guard.
Hofmann knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Perez on the ground.

Hofmann is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Perez is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Hofmann wants to pass the guard but Perez is keeping the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Hofmann is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Perez pulls his head out easily.

Hofmann won't allow Perez to pass to mount.
Hofmann is looking for a sweep. Perez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Perez is trying to control the action in half guard but Hofmann is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Hofmann throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Perez's waist but Perez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hofmann off to one side.

Perez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hofmann walks away with a smile on his face. Perez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Hofmann drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Andre Hofmann overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hofmann postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Alex Perez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hofmann shoots in looking for a takedown but Perez manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hofmann's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Hofmann fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Perez sprawls well initially but Hofmann persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Hofmann is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

Hofmann wants to work for an arm triangle but Perez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hofmann closes this distance looking for a takedown but Perez circles away.

Perez rushes Hofmann and presses him up against the cage.

Hofmann has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Perez uses from the top position.

Perez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hofmann swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's time! Hofmann's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Perez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hofmann gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Hofmann looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hofmann tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Perez is trying to drag Hofmann to the mat but Hofmann just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hofmann, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
