The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Julian misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bates avoids the head kick by Julian.
Julian could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bates tries to clinch up.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bates.
A head kick misses from Julian.
Bates looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Bates closes this distance looking for a takedown but Julian circles away.
Prince Julian has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Norm Bates.

Bates closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Julian to the mat! Julian manages to get full guard.
Bates makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Julian looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Julian has his foot on Bates's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bates works his way back into a safe position though.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Julian throws a head kick but Bates moves out of range.
Bates shoots in for a takedown but Julian shows good takedown defense.

Julian shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Julian showed some decent athleticism there.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bates is looking for a sweep. Julian is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Bates is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Julian's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Julian's back!

That was a close round but I would say that Prince Julian will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Julian keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Bates fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Julian connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Bates momentarily.
Nice takedown defense from Julian. No joy for Bates on that attempt.
Prince Julian has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Norm Bates.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Julian wants to control but Bates is keeping busy.
Julian makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Julian.
Julian is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Bates drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bates jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Nice body punch from Bates.

Bates closes the distance and clinches.
Julian lands an elbow that stopped Bates in his tracks for a moment.
Bates tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Bates dodges an elbow strike from Julian.
Bates tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Julian smiles and moves away.
Prince Julian seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Julian steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Bates. That one must have hurt.
Bates looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Julian is fending him off so far but Bates persists. Nope, Julian circles away and we're back to standing.
Bates blocks a head kick by Julian.
Bates is looking to clinch but Julian is avoiding it.
A punch combination from Bates misses.
Julian doesn't manage to clinch there - Bates circles away.
Bates fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Julian misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Bates bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Bates in side control lands a decent elbow.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Prince Julian will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bates wants to control from the top but Julian keeps moving.
Bates wants to stand but Julian has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Bates throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bates accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Julian stuffs the takedown.
Julian throws a head kick that half lands.
Julian misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Bates jabs at Julian's body.
Julian tries a head kick but it misses.

Julian moves into the clinch.
Bates lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Bates avoiding damage.
Julian prevents the takedown attempt.
Bates fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Julian breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bates changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Julian looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Julian is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
A lull in the action here as Bates stalls from top position.
Julian manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Julian is working for a kimura but Bates is defending it quite comfortably.
Bates wants to control but Julian is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Julian not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Julian trying to control the pace.
Bates is controlling Julian's trapped leg to prevent Julian from advancing to side control.

Julian looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Norm Bates comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Julian has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
