PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Hoodoo Brown (ranked 158 p4p, 303 weight class) and Tadahiro Nomura (ranked 14 p4p, 22 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Nomura's choice of entrance music: Nomura. Hoodoo Brown could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Tadahiro Nomura's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 1, fighting out of New York, Hoodoo Brown!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tadahiro Nomura!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown clobbers Nomura with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Nomura throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Brown changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Brown shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Nomura as he jumps to the side.
Nomura leaves Brown with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Brown shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Nomura defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hoodoo Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Brown takes one to the side of the head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nomura misses with a wild body shot.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Brown.
Nomura looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Brown tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Nomura swivels and escapes.
Nomura looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
A left lands for Brown.
Brown closes the distance and clinches up with Nomura, looking for a takedown. Brown pushes Nomura against the cage but Nomura circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Nomura instigates a clinch.
Brown fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Brown misses with a punch to the body.
Nomura tries to work over Brown's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Nomura misses with some punches.
Nomura throws a punch but it's blocked by Brown.
Brown working some nice short punches in the clinch.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Nomura has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Nomura blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Brown lands with a short punch from the clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Brown.
Nomura lands a shoulder strike.
Brown misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Brown has Nomura pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Nomura manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Brown blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Brown tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Brown goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Brown works on Nomura's body with a couple of short punches.
Brown misses with some punches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Brown tries to score a body lock takedown but Nomura shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Brown digs a right hand underneath Nomura's ribcage. Nomura let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Nomura breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Brown keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Nomura.
Nomura throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Brown sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Nomura closes the distance and clinches.
Nomura is pressed up against the cage. Brown has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Nomura down to the mat. Nomura avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Brown fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Nomura avoids it really well and circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nomura scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Brown doesn't seem bothered though.

Nomura gets caught flat footed, as Brown shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Nomura is rocked!
Nomura has momentary wrist control but Brown slips an elbow through the middle.
Nomura is still in real trouble! Can Brown finish him?
Brown postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Nomura covers up, he's hurt! Brown keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Brown and the ref steps in to end the fight! Brown can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hoodoo Brown!
Hoodoo Brown is the new bantamweight champion!
Our winner, Hoodoo Brown, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
Tadahiro Nomura spoke after the fight, saying 'Mizu ni nagasu/the water flows.'.
