PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Sokol (ranked 4166 p4p, 24964 weight class) and Hero Hero (ranked 200 p4p, 0 weight class). Hero Hero is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeff Sokol!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Hero Hero!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Phil Schofield and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hero with the inside leg kick.

Sokol scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Hero tries to kick Sokol off in order to stand up. Sokol Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Sokol wants to stand but Hero has his arm trapped.
Sokol is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Hero will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Hero parries the strikes from Sokol easily there. Sokol is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Hero to escape.
Hero sneaks back into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sokol missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Sokol wants to get back to his feet.
Hero is looking to improve his position.

Sokol looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Sokol wants to stand up but Hero has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Hero kicks off Sokol and gets to his feet.
Sokol stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sokol wants it to stay on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hero throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Sokol's waist but Sokol gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hero off to one side.
Hero dives in for a single leg takedown but Sokol sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Jeff Sokol has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hero Hero.

Sokol bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Sokol content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Sokol tries to stand but Hero controls the position and pulls Sokol into his guard.

Hero isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Sokol stacks Hero on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Sokol!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sokol content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Sokol has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Hero!

Sokol moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Hero has worked his arm free - good work by Hero!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
A control attempt from Hero but he's now mounted!
Sokol controlling the pace for now.
Sokol looking to finish Hero with some ground and pound. This is bad for Hero!
Hero reaches up to try and control the position but Sokol seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Hero rolls and tries to escape and now Sokol has his back!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Sokol biding his time, controlling Hero.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!

Hero throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Sokol closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Hero quickly recovers to half guard.

Hero kicks off Sokol and gets to his feet.
Hero wants to clinch up but Sokol keeps it at a distance.
Hero with a jab.

Sokol shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hero is trying to defend but Sokol finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Well, if Sokol is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Sokol's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Further stalling from Sokol.
Sokol tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Hero.
Hero keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sokol lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Hero is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sokol pulls his head out easily.
Hero misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Hero wants to get back to full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hero changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sokol tries to avoid it but Hero manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sokol to the ground. Sokol escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Sokol is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Hero's half guard.

Hero wants to get back to his feet.

Hero is trying to stand up here but Sokol is controlling him well.

Still in half guard, Sokol seems content to control.
Sokol lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Sokol takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The fighters are battling for position here. Hero manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jeff Sokol will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hero is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sokol perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Hero trying to hold on to Sokol's head to control him but Sokol postures up.

Hero takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Sokol wants to stand but Hero is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Hero sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Sokol is controlling the pace.
Sokol scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Sokol wants to stand up but Hero is controlling the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Still in half guard, Sokol seems content to control.
Hero Hero has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Jeff Sokol is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Sokol drops an elbow to the side of Hero's head.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jeff Sokol showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sokol, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
