PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Higanti Libat (ranked 23495 p4p, 23737 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 46 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Higanti Libat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 35 - 40 - 7, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Sapi darts in looking for a takedown but Libat gets double underhooks and turns Sapi into the cage.
Libat throws a quick counter kick to the body but Sapi avoids it.
Sapi fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Libat appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Sapi shoots in looking for a takedown but Libat manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sapi's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Libat drops down looking for a counter takedown but Sapi sprawls and moves away.
Higanti Libat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wala Sapi.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Sapi drives through with a takedown into Libat's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Sapi is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Libat looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Sapi lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Sapi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Libat's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Libat pulls Sapi in close to prevent any damage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Libat looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Libat is looking to counter with a body kick.

Libat shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sapi as he jumps to the side.

and Libat counters with an outside leg kick.
Sapi tries to score a power double leg takedown but Libat sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sapi somewhat.
Higanti Libat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wala Sapi.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Sapi shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Libat counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Libat goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Sapi counters with a body kick.

Libat shoots in and bounces Sapi off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Sapi not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Libat got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sapi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Libat has managed to get both his arms back between Sapi's legs - danger averted.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sapi being controlled here, momentarily.
Sapi pulls Libat in to control the position.
Libat controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Libat looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sapi is fending him off so far but Libat persists. Nope, Sapi circles away and we're back to standing.
Sapi tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Libat swivels and escapes.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Libat enables Sapi to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Libat manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Sapi stays in close to Libat's body and controls the position.

Libat wants to sweep here but Sapi controlling him for the moment.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Libat holds on and takes a little breather.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Sapi slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Higanti Libat is winning the standup battle so far.

Sapi shoots in for a double leg but Libat sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Sapi scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Wala Sapi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Sapi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
