PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rick Diamond (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johan Bensing (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rick Diamond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Johan Bensing!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Roosa Järviläinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diamond throws a head kick but Bensing moves out of range.
Bensing rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Diamond moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Diamond throws a head kick that misses.

Bensing gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Diamond decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Bensing connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Nice takedown defense from Bensing. No joy for Diamond on that attempt.

Bensing moves into the clinch.
Diamond tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Bensing smiles and moves away.

Diamond shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Diamond showed some decent athleticism there.

Diamond is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Diamond is looking to advance position but Bensing won't allow it.
Diamond working over Bensing with some ground and pound. Bensing looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Diamond looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Diamond passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Bensing!
Bensing really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diamond. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Bensing is trying to escape the mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bensing is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Diamond connects with a couple of good shots from mount.


It looks like Johan Bensing has been cut.
A nice elbow there by Diamond.

Diamond goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Bensing is on top in guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Bensing wants to control from the top but Diamond keeps moving.

Diamond escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Bensing gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Diamond looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Diamond working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bensing doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bensing manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Diamond has an active guard here but Bensing has managed to pass into half guard.
Diamond is breathing heavily.

Bensing prevents Diamond from improving his position.
Bensing seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Diamond does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Diamond looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Diamond looking for submissions off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Diamond dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Johan Bensing's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Diamond shoots for a takedown but Bensing saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Diamond checks the leg kick nicely there.
Diamond changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bensing tries to avoid it but Diamond manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bensing to the ground. Bensing escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Diamond shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Diamond working for a guillotine from mount but Bensing is in no mood to give up.
Diamond breaks from Bensing's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Diamond lands a big shot there that rocks Bensing but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Diamond throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Diamond is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Diamond feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Diamond has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bensing keeping full guard, as Diamond tries to pass.
Bensing wants to sweep here but Diamond controlling him for the moment.
Diamond trying to control the position from guard on top but Bensing is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Diamond is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Diamond thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Bensing controls Diamond momentarily but Diamond frees himself.
Diamond passes Bensing's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Bensing is staying active underneath Diamond, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Diamond is looking for a kimura but Bensing is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Diamond to get the leverage.
Diamond slows the pace down in half guard.
Diamond throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Bensing is defending against the submission attempts here by Diamond.
