PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Adam Bogo (ranked 1606 p4p, 1597 weight class) and Dragon Li Chai (ranked 117 p4p, 116 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 22 - 0, fighting out of London, Adam Bogo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dragon Li Chai!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Ben Hemmingworth and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slapping body kick lands there for Chai.
Bogo throws a head kick but Chai moves out of range.
Chai is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
Bogo wants to clinch.
Bogo throws a sloppy head kick and Chai moves out of range easily.
Chai misses with a head kick.
Chai misses with a low kick.
We've been hearing reports that Bogo has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bogo throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Chai lands a big head kick that sends Bogo tumbling to the mat! Chai takes a step backwards and waves Bogo back to his feet - he wants the finish!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Chai swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Chai throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Bogos head.
Still in the clinch, Chai scores with a nice short uppercut.

Bogo drags the fight down to the ground.
Bogo is striking but Chai is not phased and passes to half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Chai in particular looking to stall.

Bogo is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Chai is controlling him well.
Bogo is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Chai off and has taken his back!

Bogo is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Chai is defending well though. Bogo let's go of the attempt for now.

Chai is having to fend off submission attempts from Bogo, who is looking to sink in the choke. Bogo doesn't have the hooks in though and Chai manages to reverse position! He's now on top, in his opponent's guard.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Bogo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Chai.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Chai.
Bogo moves in looking to clinch but Chai pushes him off.

Chai will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Bogo postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Chai is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Bogo, into his guard.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Chai is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Chai is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Bogo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Bogo working for a triangle but Chai defends it easily.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Bogo is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Chai not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dragon Li Chai showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Bogo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Chai looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Chai looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Chai!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bogo is looking to regain half guard here but Chai keeps moving and retains side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chai decides to stand up, so the ref orders Bogo to his feet.

Dragon Li Chai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bogo lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Bogo attempts a counter takedown but Chai avoids it well and moves away.

Chai throws a head kick that misses.
Bogo tries to counter with a takedown but Chai is quick to defend against it.
Sloppy strikes from Chai. Those never looked like landing.

Bogo throws a sloppy head kick and Chai moves out of range easily.

Bogo drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Chai dives on top into guard.

Dragon Li Chai is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Dragon Li Chai comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Chai winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
