PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Gold (ranked 5801 p4p, 5171 weight class) and Dree Low (ranked 500 p4p, 466 weight class). Gold comes to the cage accompanied by Benzz - Je M'appelle. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joe Gold!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dree Low!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Bruno Hogan and Ron Honeybunn.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Low tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gold swivels and escapes.
Nice sprawl there from Low as Gold shoots in.
Gold looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Low is fending him off so far but Gold persists. Nope, Low circles away and we're back to standing.
Gold closes the distance and clinches up with Low, looking for a takedown. Gold pushes Low against the cage but Low circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Low tries to counter with a clinch but Gold shakes him off and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joe Gold. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gold wants to clinch.
Gold moves in looking to clinch but Low pushes him off.
Dree Low seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gold throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
And Low tries to counter it with a takedown but Gold pushes his down on his head and steps out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Low missing with a left hand there. Gold was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Low shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gold as he avoids it easily.

Low manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Gold on his heels. He'll look to pass Gold's guard now, I'm sure.
Gold is trying to keep Low in close.
Gold has his hands on Low's head, controlling the position.

Low stands up from Gold's guard - Low perhaps looking for a knockout.

Low goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Gold has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Low is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Low throws out a loose jab but Gold uses good head movement to avoid it.

Gold tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Low defends well and Gold ends up having to push Low into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Low escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gold tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Low paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Low looks to land a combination but Gold avoids it well.

Low closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Low is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Gold tries to get to full guard but Low has control of the leg.
Low trying to control the pace.
Low passes to full mount!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Low controlling his opponent.

Low is trying hard to land a takedown here. Gold sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Low gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Gold trying to control the position but instead, Low has worked for underhooks and has pushed Gold into the cage.
Gold has a couple of punches blocked by Low.
Gold is trying to drag Low to the mat but Low just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Low misses with a short punch on the inside.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dree Low has got the better of the ground game so far.

Gold tries to hold on but Low postures up.
Low misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Gold is wriggling around trying to escape.

Low has control of Gold's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Gold regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Gold looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Low is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.
Low lands a couple of good shots and Gold has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Gold is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Low gets his way!

Good control from Low.
Gold trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Low is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Gold is defending well though. Low let's go of the attempt for now.
Gold just trying to survive but Low is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dree Low showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Gold scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Low felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Gold wants to lay and pray for a moment but Low keeps working.
Gold wants to stand but Low has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.

Gold seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gold stops Low from standing up.
Gold is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Low looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Low lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Gold not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Low controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Gold can't keep his opponent in guard - Low advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Low tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Gold.

Low is taking a breather. Gold says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Low not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Low seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Gold tries to roll over but Low keeps him under control.
Gold wants to control but Low passes into side.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Low working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Dree Low comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Low has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
