Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Bum Phillips!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Andor Kovacs!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kovacs throws a head kick but Phillips moves out of range.
Kovacs scores with a jab. Phillips acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
We've been hearing reports that Phillips has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Kovacs throws a hook but Phillips blocks it.
Phillips throwing a counter right hand but Kovacs manages to avoid it.
Kovacs moves in looking to clinch but Phillips pushes him off.
Kovacs throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Phillips stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Andor Kovacs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Phillips fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kovacs avoids it really well and circles away.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Kovacs! But no joy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Phillips shoots in and drives through. Kovacs sprawls well.
Kovacs throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Phillips shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kovacs's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kovacs wants to sweep here but Phillips controlling him for the moment.

Phillips stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kovacs swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Phillips doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Kovacs dips to his left and cracks Phillips with an uppercut!

Kovacs tries to close the distance and clinch up but Phillips swats him away and circles back towards the center.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

and Kovacs counters with a nice uppercut.
Phillips shoots in and drives through. Kovacs sprawls well.

Kovacs gets the takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Phillips is looking to reverse the position.

Kovacs decides to take the fight back to the feet.

and Kovacs holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Phillips has his foot on Kovacs's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kovacs works his way back into a safe position though.

Kovacs is trying to trip Phillips. He has hold of a leg but Phillips is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Kovacs persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kovacs accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
