PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Feather Jay Jones (ranked 4343 p4p, 4287 weight class) and Middle Man (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Middle Man told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Feather Jay Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Middle Man!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Andrew Berry and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Jones as Man shoots in.
Man closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away.
Man avoids the body shot from Jones.
Jones goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Man blocks a head kick by Jones.

Man rushes Jones and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Man successfully pulls guard.

Man escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jones gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Jones distracts Man with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Jones throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Man trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones is stalling in the full guard.
Jones with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Jones showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Man looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Jones content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Jones in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Man looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jones is one step ahead there.

Man trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.
Man has momentary wrist control but Jones slips an elbow through the middle.

Jones drops back looking for a leg! Man is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Man manages to kick Jones off! Jones jumps back into Man's guard.
Jones looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Jones with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Jones is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Jones scoring with punches to the head and body.

Man wants to sweep but no luck.

Man looking for a guillotine here but Jones defends easily.
Jones scoring with some ground and pound.
Jones wants to stand but Man has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones looking to sit in guard and control but Man gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Man wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Jones is trying to control the position from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Man avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Man trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.

Jones looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Man passes into half guard.
Jones wants to get back to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Man is working for a submission of some sort.
Jones moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Feather Jay Jones dominated that round.
That's time! Jones's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Jones is looking to clinch but Man is avoiding it.

Man closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Man lands in his opponent's guard.
Man trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.
Man postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Man must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jones is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Man is aware though and is defending well.
Man's corner is telling him to maintain position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Man from controlling successfully.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Jones is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Man trying to control but Jones postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Man on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Man gets back to full guard.

Jones stands up and waves to Man to follow him.
Man moves in looking to clinch but Jones pushes him off.
Man walks forward, straight into a front kick from Jones.
A big left from Jones misses.
Jones throws a body kick that misses.

Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Jones trying to control but Man is working from the bottom.
Jones is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Man can do to turn this around?
Jones won't allow Man to sweep him here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones is working Man over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Man keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Jones stopping the sweep attempt from Man.
Jones works over Man with some ground and pound from guard.
Man working a defensive guard but Jones manages to pass into side control anyway.
Man taking punishment in the form of punches.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jones has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Jones is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Man can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones landing strikes from the mount.
Man working to try and regain half guard.
Man is breathing heavily.
Man slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Jones is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Jones is taking a breather. Man says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Jones connects with a nice short shot to Man's temple.
Jones working Man over with strikes.
Jones looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Man with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Jones prevents Man from improving his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jones is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Man is just riding it out for now. Jones eventually gives up the hold.

Jones is trying to work for a kimura but Man is defending well.
Feather Jay Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Jones has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Man defend it? Jones steps over the head and cranks it - Man is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Jones!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Feather Jay Jones!
