PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Akari Ayako (ranked 5524 p4p, 24875 weight class) and Weston Gilmore (ranked 290 p4p, 306 weight class). Weston Gilmore told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akari Ayako!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Weston Gilmore!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Ian Loll and William Peck.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gilmore rushes Ayako and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Gilmore prevents the takedown attempt.
The referee is keeping an eye on Gilmore - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Gilmore takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Gilmore continues to stall. The referee tells him to work or he's going to break them up.

Gilmore manages to pull guard.

Gilmore has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Ayako off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Gilmore tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ayako defends well and Gilmore ends up having to push Ayako into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Ayako tries to clinch up
and Gilmore counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ayako closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ayako tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Gilmore gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Gilmore works his way to full guard. Good work.
Gilmore is pulling down on Ayako's head to control his posture.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gilmore looking for a triangle here. Ayako is fighting it but it looks tight! Gilmore pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Ayako is tapping out - this one is all over!
