Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jay Bird (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and ernesto valenzuela Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bird fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Rodriguez sprawls well initially but Bird persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Bird is working for a submission of some sort.
Rodriguez is positioning himself well to prevent Bird advancing to mount.
Bird seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Rodriguez won't allow Bird to pass to mount.
Rodriguez keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Rodriguez has one foot on Bird's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Rodriguez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Bird fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Rodriguez avoids the head kick by Bird.
Bird moves in looking to clinch but Rodriguez pushes him off.

Rodriguez closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Rodriguez grinds an elbow into Bird's temple.
Bird sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Bird is looking for a sweep. Rodriguez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Bird trying to hold on to Rodriguez's head to control him but Rodriguez postures up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Bird won't allow Rodriguez to pass to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bird wants to get back to full guard.
Bird regains full guard. Nicely done.
Bird controls Rodriguez momentarily but Rodriguez frees himself.
Bird is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bird passes to side control.
Bird tries to stand but Rodriguez is controlling his head.
Bird is breathing heavily.
Rodriguez is looking for a sweep.
Rodriguez is not content to let Bird control the position.
Bird wants to stand but Rodriguez has his arm trapped.
Rodriguez prevents Bird from improving position.

Rodriguez tries to escape but Bird is in control.
You can see the frustration on Rodriguez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Bird fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bird looks to throw the jab but Rodriguez is out of range.
Jay Bird seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bird shoots and misses

and Rodriguez counters with a nice double leg into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bird is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Rodriguez frees his head nicely. Oh but Bird has switched to an armbar! Rodriguez is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
