The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smorth tries to clinch but Lovelace is having none of it.
Edgar Smorth seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smorth tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Lovelace lands with a straight right. Smorth didn't see that one coming.
Smorth shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Lovelace sprawls well. Lovelace wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Smorth gets slowly back to his feet.
A counter left hand to the body from Lovelace misses its target.
Lovelace moves out of range of the body kick.
Lovelace swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Smorth tries a head kick but it misses.
Smorth tries to close the distance and clinch but Lovelace swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smorth shoots in for a takedown but Lovelace shows good takedown defense.
Lovelace misses with a looping left.
Smorth shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lovelace as he avoids it easily.
Ferris Lovelace has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Edgar Smorth.
Smorth misses with a double jab
and Lovelace makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Smorth looks winded!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lovelace stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Ferris Lovelace is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lovelace misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Smorth.
Lovelace cracks Smorth on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Smorth falls backwards against the cage. Lovelace follows up with more strikes that drop Smorth to his knees. Lovelace keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Smorth! This one is all over!
