PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Grayson Fry (ranked 4247 p4p, 4077 weight class) and Lyle Lovington (ranked 267 p4p, 261 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Grayson Fry!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lyle Lovington!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fry tries to clinch up but Lovington circles away and keeps his distance.
Lovington is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Lovington throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Fry has a takedown stuffed.

Lovington shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Fry manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Lovington sitting in guard here, content to control.
Fry is trying to control the position but Lovington postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fry is looking for a triangle but Lovington pushes his legs off easily.
Fry wants to stand up but Lovington is controlling him.

Fry is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Fry has momentary wrist control but Lovington slips an elbow through the middle.
Lovington tries to free his leg and advance position but Fry is retaining full guard.

Fry lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fry trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Lovington looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Fry passes into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lovington is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Fry sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Lovington is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Fry trying to control the position but Lovington is working away.
Lovington looks to move to half guard but instead Fry has passed into mount! Damn!

Fry is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Lovington can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Lovington regains half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lovington can do anything to dispel that myth.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lovington tries to roll over but Fry keeps him under control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Grayson Fry will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

A big left from Lovington misses.

Lovington rushes Fry and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Lovington has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Fry regains guard immediately.

Fry bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lovington's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lovington lands some strikes from the bottom.

Lovington seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Fry trying to control but Lovington is working from the bottom.
Fry wants to pass the guard but Lovington is keeping the position.
Fry won't allow Lovington to sweep him here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Fry wanted to stand there but Lovington had control of the position.
Lovington is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Lovington closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Fry to the mat! Fry manages to get full guard.
Fry is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Fry looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Fry gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Fry wants to get back to his feet but Lovington passes into half guard.

Lovington controlling the action here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Fry actively working from the bottom here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fry is trying to control but can't.
Lovington takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Lovington winds up and cracks Fry with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Lovington looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Fry with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Fry is trying to stand up here but Lovington is controlling him well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Lyle Lovington showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Fry's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Lovington manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Fry on his heels. He'll look to pass Fry's guard now, I'm sure.
Fry not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Lovington seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Fry wants to control from the top but Lovington keeps moving.
Fry tries to stand but Lovington is controlling from the bottom.
Lovington has Fry pulled in close to control his posture.
Let's hope that Lovington has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Fry would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Lovington tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Fry throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Lovington moves into the clinch.

Lovington turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Fry is trying to get back to half guard.

Lovington is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Fry has escaped the position, nice work there.
Lovington takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fry seems a little lost for a moment, as Lovington dominates the positioning.

Lovington swings around for an armbar but Fry sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Lovington's guard.
Fry wants to control from the top but Lovington keeps moving.
Fry passes Lovington's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fry trying to control from half guard but Lovington is working away.

Fry is looking for a kimura but Lovington is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Fry to get the leverage.
Lovington is looking for a sweep. Fry is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Grayson Fry.
I think Fry has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
