The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Frankenstein tries to pull guard but Howell won't allow it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Frankenstein stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Howell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Frankenstein could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Howell has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Frankenstein can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Howell working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Frankenstein doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Frankenstein manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Frankenstein wants to control from the top but Howell keeps moving.

Frankenstein goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Howell has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Frankenstein but great work by Howell.

My spies in New York Public Gym inform me that Howell has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
