PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sim Hwan (ranked 3888 p4p, 23892 weight class) and Ramon Orr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hwan kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is The Chant of Metta (Pali). Sim Hwan has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sim Hwan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ramon Orr!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Kenichi Hosakawa and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Orr.
Hwan was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Hwan misses with a lunging right hand

and Orr holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Orr dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Orr keeps control of Hwan as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Orr tries to score a body lock takedown but Hwan shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Hwan has had enough of the clinch but Orr keeps him there for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Orr successfully pulls guard.
Orr tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hwan trying to stand up but can't free himself from Orr's guard.

Orr working a defensive guard here.
Orr has a closed guard, preventing Hwan from standing up.

Orr is working an open guard so Hwan takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Hwan waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Orr.

Orr throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Hwan was covering up waiting for the punch and Orr finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Orr must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Hwan wants to get back to his feet but Orr is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Orr trying to control but Hwan is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Orr won't allow Hwan to get back to his feet.
Orr is looking to work some ground and pound but Hwan has wrist control.
Orr prevents Hwan from getting back to his feet.
Orr trying to control the position from guard on top but Hwan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Orr prevents Hwan from getting back to his feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Hwan wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Orr looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Orr moves into range and clinches up with Hwan.

Orr ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Orr no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Hwan trying to stand up but can't free himself from Orr's guard.

Orr working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hwan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hwan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hwan wanted to stand there but Orr had control of the position.
Orr wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Hwan is now in half guard.

Orr is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hwan pulls his head out easily.
Orr tries to get to full guard but Hwan has control of the leg.
Hwan is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Orr looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Hwan decides to stand up.
Nice sprawl there from Hwan as Orr shoots in.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ramon Orr dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Orr fails with the takedown.
Orr avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Hwan is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
A big left from Hwan misses.
Hwan lands with a good body shot.
Nice uppercut lands for Hwan. That snapped Orr's head back.
Ramon Orr is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Orr scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Hwan wants to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Orr is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hwan defends it well.

Orr decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
We've been informed that Orr has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Orr has taken the fight to the clinch.
Stalling in the clinch from Orr.
Orr goes for a takedown attempt but Hwan pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Hwan connects with a right hand. Orr shakes it off.
Orr tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hwan lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Hwan scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Orr is rocked!
Orr slips under a jab.
Orr is still on wobbly legs! Can Hwan finish him?
Hwan misses the jab.
Orr seems to have recovered his senses.

Orr moves into the clinch successfully.

Orr breaks the clinch.

Orr gets a takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Orr trying to control from half guard but Hwan is working away.

Hwan has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Orr is on him like a limpet, forcing Hwan back against the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Orr escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Orr steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Hwan.

Hwan tries to keep at a distance but Orr has taken the fight into the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Orr is leaning against Hwan and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.

Orr pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sim Hwan is winning the standup battle so far.
The crowd cheers as Hwan lands an impressive looking overhand right. Orr doesn't seem phased though.

Orr looking to score a takedown here. Hwan is defending well but Orr drives through and ends up in Hwan's guard.
Hwan is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Orr is controlling him.
Hwan on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hwan tries to get out of the position.

Orr postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hwan is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Orr, into his guard.

Orr not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Hwan wants to stand but Orr is controlling his posture from full guard.

Orr has his foot on Hwan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hwan works his way back into a safe position though.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Sim Hwan dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Hwan misses the jab.

Orr moves into range and clinches up with Hwan.
Orr is struggling to control the position.

Orr turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Orr manages to end up in side control.
Hwan is trying to buck Orr off.
Orr fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Hwan is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Orr has just dragged him back down to the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Orr in side control, throwing shots but Hwan defends.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hwan is trying to get back to his feet.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Hwan looks to land a right hand but Orr moved out of range.

Orr drives through and clinches with Hwan against the cage.

Orr manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Hwan stops Orr from standing up.
Orr is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hwan would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Orr looking for a sweep. Not yet Orr, not yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Orr trying to keep a closed guard but Hwan is proving a slippery customer.
Hwan wants to get up but he can't break Orr's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Orr is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Orr is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hwan is aware though and is defending well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sim Hwan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Orr shoots in and drives through. Hwan sprawls well.
Hwan misses with a straight right.
Hwan looks to throw the jab but Orr is out of range.
Hwan keeps the fight on the outside.
Hwan fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Orr has Hwan up against the cage in a clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hwan tries to break free but Orr pushes him back against the cage.
Orr holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Orr creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Hwan's defenses.

It looks like Sim Hwan has been cut.
Orr tries to pull guard but Hwan holds him up against the cage and eventually Orr drops back down to his feet.
Orr jumps guard but Hwan turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Sim Hwan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ramon Orr.
Orr stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Hwan can't break the clinch.
Hwan tries a body shot but Orr blocks it.
Hwan is trying to maintain a safe position but Orr gets an underhook and turns Hwan into the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hwan is trying to force a seperation but Orr has the dominant position.
Orr keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Hwan's efforts to push away.
Orr gets through Hwan's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Orr pulls Hwan into guard.
Orr wants to get back to his feet but Hwan is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Hwan gets to his feet - Orr follows without any prompting.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
Orr throws a knee to the head but misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
Ramon Orr comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Orr has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
