PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Harold Morse (ranked 3061 p4p, 4096 weight class) and Daniel Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Morse has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Harold Morse has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Harold Morse!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Daniel Alvarez!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Dirk Anderson and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morse tries to bum rush Alvarez with a series of wild strikes but Alvarez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Alvarez has Morse up against the cage in a clinch.
Morse misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Morse wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Alvarez has him pressed against the cage.
Alvarez's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Morse tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Alvarez's elbow.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alvarez jumps guard and drags Morse to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Alvarez can do anything to dispel that myth.

Morse got a little sloppy there for a moment and Alvarez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Morse has managed to get both his arms back between Alvarez's legs - danger averted.

Alvarez wants to sweep here but Morse controlling him for the moment.

Alvarez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Morse gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Alvarez is on top in guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Alvarez wants to stand but Morse has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Morse will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Alvarez tries to free his leg and advance position but Morse is retaining full guard.
Alvarez chips away with some ground and pound.

Morse is breathing heavily.

Alvarez is stalling in the full guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Alvarez has a takedown stuffed.

Alvarez throws a wild body kick that Morse sees coming a mile off.
Alvarez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Morse pinned against the cage. Morse gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Morse throws a right and a left that both miss.
Morse falls off balance throwing a combination

and Alvarez counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Alvarez.

Alvarez ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Alvarez no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Alvarez is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Alvarez shoots in looking for a takedown. Morse tries to sprawl out of it but Alvarez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Morse manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Morse went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Morse really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alvarez is pushing down on Morse's leg trying to pass to half guard. Morse is fighting to maintain full guard but Alvarez has managed to sneak the leg through.
Alvarez seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Morse has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Alvarez is working away from the top position though.
Morse is not content to let Alvarez control the position.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Morse throws a nice looking combination but Alvarez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Harold Morse is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Alvarez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Morse's waist but Morse gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Alvarez off to one side.
Horrible takedown attempt by Alvarez or perhaps it was just good defense by Morse, which made it look bad.

Morse is looking to stand up but Alvarez isn't so interested in that idea.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Alvarez.
Harold Morse seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Morse fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Alvarez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Alvarez seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Morse does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Alvarez slips a nice elbow through Morse's hands, connecting with Morse's forehead.

Alvarez lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Alvarez is trying to control. Morse wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Alvarez wants to stand but Morse has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

And that's the end of the fight!
Daniel Alvarez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Alvarez winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
