PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ezra Spence (ranked 4099 p4p, 4341 weight class) and Emerson Hartman (ranked 209 p4p, 221 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ezra Spence!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Emerson Hartman!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Chris Dean and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spence swinging wildly here.
Spence really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Hartman fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Spence sprawls well initially but Hartman persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Hartman is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Spence defends it well.
Hartman takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hartman passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Spence!

Spence wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Hartman.
Hartman throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Hartman looking to secure an arm triangle but Spence defends it well.
Spence is breathing heavily.
Poor strikes thrown by Hartman there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Hartman lands a nice shot to the head.
Hartman tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Hartman thowing shots but they're missing.
Hartman throws some wild stikes that Spence manages to avoid easily.
Hartman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Hartman stands up from mount. Strange move.
Spence takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Hartman forces Spence back against the cage and clinches.

Hartman pulls guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hartman is on top in guard.

Hartman postures up in Spence's guard and throws a big left but Spence blocks it.

Hartman is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Hartman passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Sloppy strikes there by Hartman.
Hartman tries to score with some ground and pound. Spence controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hartman is staying tight to Spence's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Hartman looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Spence is avoiding damage well.

Hartman stands up.
Hartman goes for a double leg but Spence avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Spence continues to drive forward.

Hartman decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Hartman seems to be looking for submissions.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Hartman creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Spence sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Emerson Hartman has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Spence knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hartman on the ground.

Hartman is working for a guillotine from mount but Spence frees his head quite easily.

Hartman gets the takedown into side control.
Spence bucks up and tries to throw Hartman off but instead Hartman has got his back!

Spence has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Hartman.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Hartman tightening his grip on Spence, looking for the choke.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hartman really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Spence.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Emerson Hartman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Hartman moves into the clinch successfully.
Spence has had enough of the clinch but Hartman keeps him there for the moment.
Hartman has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Hartman takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Spence looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Ezra Spence is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Hartman closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Spence takes a shot to the head.
Spence working hard to break the clinch.
Spence on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Hartman changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Spence fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Hartman stalks Spence and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Spence's face. Spence staggers backwards, shaken.
Ezra Spence seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hartman rushes Spence and presses him up against the cage.
Hartman can't get the takedown.

Hartman pulls guard.
Hartman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Spence's guard.

Hartman throws a big elbow that misses.

Hartman decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Spence, up you get!

Hartman shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hartman stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Spence to get to his feet.
Hartman lands a jab-cross combination.
Hartman throws a body kick that misses.
Hartman lands a nice shot to the body.

Hartman clinches.

Hartman pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

A clash of legs there as Spence blocks the low kick.

Hartman fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Spence, pushing him back against the cage.

Hartman manages to pull guard.
Hartman pulls Spence in close to prevent any damage.
Hartman striking off his back but it's not causing Spence any problems.

Hartman pushes Spence off and scrambles back to his feet.

Hartman rushes Spence and presses him up against the cage.

Hartman decides to pull guard.

Hartman has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Spence off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Hartman lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hartman clinches.

Hartman has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Spence after a bit of a struggle.
Ezra Spence has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Emerson Hartman.

Hartman lands a shot to the body.

Hartman breaks from the clinch.
Hartman pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Spence back to the cage. Hartman follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Hartman shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Spence defends it nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Emerson Hartman comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hartman has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
