PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ed Green (ranked 1781 p4p, 1559 weight class) and Caio Victor (ranked 104 p4p, 89 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Caio Victor was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ed Green!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 34 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Caio Victor!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Albert Achterberg and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Victor defending well as Green loads up on a big left hand.
Victor misses with a straight right.
Green lands a lovely overhand right.
Victor lunges at Green with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Green's hand.
Green throws an off balance right hand
letting Victor counter with a right hand.
Green throws the left hand but Victor avoids the punch easily.
Victor misses with a double jab.
Green throws a shot from downtown. Victor moves away and avoids it.
Green slips a jab from Victor.
Green misses with a two punch combination.
Victor moves away from the strike by Green.

Green fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Victor sprawls well initially but Green persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Green is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Green wants to take a breather but Victor is having none of it.
Victor is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Green's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Green's back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Green is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at 4, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Victor is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Green has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

I really don't envy Green right now.

Victor has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Green has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Victor has got his arm under Green's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Green has spun round into Victor's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

Green is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Victor is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Victor has escaped and now he's on top!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Green throws a jab but it's blocked by Victor.
Victor misses with an uppercut.
Green falls off balance throwing a combination
and Victor counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
No joy there for Victor, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ed Green is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Green feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Victors jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Green throws a jab but it's blocked by Victor.
Victor slips a jab and a cross from Green.

Green throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Victor was covering up waiting for the punch and Green finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Green is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Green rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Victor moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Ed Green seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Green looks to land a right hand but Victor moved out of range.
Green slips under a jab from Victor.
Green tries to counter with a takedown but Victor is quick to defend against it.

and Victor counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Victor wants to free his trapped foot but Green is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Victor is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Green working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Victor doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Victor manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Victor tries to move to mount but Green blocks the move with his legs.

Victor goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Green rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Victor's guard! Nice work there by Green!

Victor can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Green controls the pace.

Green is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ed Green will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

and Victor counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Green throws a hook but Victor avoids it easily.
Green misses with a two punch combination.

and Victor counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Green looks to land a right hand but Victor moved out of range.

Victor is looking to advance position but Green has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Green can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Victor is looking to escape.
Green pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.

Green tries to control but Victor wriggling away.

Green jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Victor manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Green tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Green has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Victor keeps trying to improve his position.
Victor manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Green slows the pace down in half guard.

Green is working for a kimura but Victor is defending it quite comfortably.
Victor moves into full guard.

Victor looking for a guillotine here but Green defends easily.

Victor is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Green shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Victor's guard.
Victor takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Green got a little sloppy there for a moment and Victor has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Green has managed to get both his arms back between Victor's legs - danger averted.
Green wants to control from the top but Victor keeps moving.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Caio Victor.
Well Victor has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
