PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sparky Anderson (ranked 1630 p4p, 2573 weight class) and Ola Badmus (ranked 191 p4p, 281 weight class). Anderson comes into the arena with Pick up man blaring out of the sound system. Ola Badmus acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sparky Anderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ola Badmus!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Sam Margolis and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sloppy strikes from Badmus. Those never looked like landing.
Badmus shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Anderson pinned against the cage. Anderson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Anderson drops down looking for a counter takedown but Badmus sprawls and moves away.
Badmus tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Anderson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Badmus getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Badmus shoots in and drives through. Anderson sprawls well.
Anderson drops down looking for a counter takedown but Badmus sprawls and moves away.

and Anderson counters with a takedown into side control.
Anderson tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Anderson is staying tight to Badmus's torso, preventing him from escaping.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Badmus is not content to let Anderson control the position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
A control attempt from Badmus but he's now mounted!

Anderson jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Badmus manages to avoid the submission attempt.
You can see the frustration on Badmus's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Anderson tries for a kimura but Badmus is defending well.
Badmus wants to control but Anderson postures up.
Anderson is staying tight to Badmus's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Badmus can't do much from the bottom here.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Anderson feints and as Badmus raises his hands in defense, Anderson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Anderson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Badmus pulls Anderson in to control the position.

Nice takedown defense from Anderson. No joy for Badmus on that attempt.

Anderson tries to move into range but Badmus moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
and Badmus counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Ola Badmus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Anderson shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Anderson is really struggling to control Badmus but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Anderson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Anderson wants to pass the guard but Badmus is keeping the position.

Badmus looking to hit a scissor sweep but Anderson is one step ahead there.
Badmus has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Anderson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Badmus feints a jab promting Anderson to slip. Badmus then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Anderson slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Anderson has his takedown stuffed
and Badmus counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Badmus tries to close the distance and clinch but Anderson swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Badmus is trying hard to land a takedown here. Anderson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Sparky Anderson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ola Badmus.
Anderson keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Anderson changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
The fight stays on the outside here - Badmus looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Badmus with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Anderson to score with a decent uppercut.

Badmus gets caught flat footed, as Anderson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Anderson trying to control the position from guard on top but Badmus is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Anderson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Badmus is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Badmus is pulling down on Anderson's head. It's preventing any offense from Anderson, at least for the moment.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ola Badmus showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Badmus with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Badmus tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Anderson defends well and Badmus ends up having to push Anderson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Ola Badmus seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Badmus dives in and grabs Anderson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Anderson pushes down on Badmus's head and hops out.
Anderson swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Badmus fails to land the takedown.
Sparky Anderson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ola Badmus.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Badmus tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Anderson swivels and escapes.
Anderson slaps away a takedown attempt from Badmus, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A looping hook to the body misses from Badmus. Anderson does a little dance to reset his feet.

Anderson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Badmus on his heels. He'll look to pass Badmus's guard now, I'm sure.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Badmus misses with a double jab
and Anderson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Badmus wants to clinch
and Anderson cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Anderson throws a poor cross that misses
and Badmus counters with a straight right hand.
Badmus throws a body punch but Anderson moves out of range.
Badmus throws a nice looking combination but Anderson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Badmus misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Anderson appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

Sparky Anderson showed his dominance in that final round.

Sparky Anderson opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
