PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Lanier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Teddy Bass (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lanier's entrance music is Sage Francis-Sea Lion. A fine choice. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Andrew Lanier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Teddy Bass!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lanier fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Lanier looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Lanier will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Bass takes a swing at Lanier's ribcage but misses.
Lanier shoots for a takedown but Bass saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andrew Lanier. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lanier takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Bass throws a head kick but Lanier moves out of range.
Bass connects with a solid leg kick.
Bass with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Bass scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Bass lands with a kick to the temple. Lanier shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Andrew Lanier seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bass feints and then cracks Lanier's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Lanier down.
Lanier fails with the takedown.

Bass feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Bass trying to control the action but Lanier is working from the bottom.
Lanier is trying to control Bass's posture but Bass avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lanier is not content to let Bass control the position.
Lanier is letting Bass control him for a moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Bass stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Bass buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Bass scores with a head kick.
Lanier tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Bass will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Bass fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Lanier.
Lanier tries for a takedown but Bass circles away easily
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Bass throws a leg kick which misses Lanier's front leg but catches the back leg as Lanier tries to avoid it.

Bass thumps Lanier with a low kick.
Bass turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Bass changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lanier looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Bass looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Lanier is avoiding damage well.

Bass wants to control but Lanier is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lanier looking for a sweep but Bass has passed into full mount! Oh no!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Lanier is looking to improve his position but Bass isn't that keen on the idea.
Bass looking to control and managing it successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Teddy Bass dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Bass tests Lanier's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Lanier shoots and misses
and Bass counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Bass is looking to slow Lanier down with leg kicks.

Bass shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Bass throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Lanier because Bass loaded up on that one.

Bass with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lanier keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Bass is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Lanier can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Bass looking to ground and pound but Lanier is blocking nicely.
Bass throwing strikes here but Lanier is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Lanier tries to lock up and control but Bass gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Bass lands a big elbow.
Bass tries to control but Lanier wriggling away.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Bass cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Lanier sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Bass is looking to take a break and control but Lanier is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Bass is controlling the pace.
Bass is keen to just control but Lanier is a slippery customer.

Despite being in the dominant position, Teddy Bass just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Lanier takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Bass plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Bass.
Bass ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Lanier moves away.
Bass lands a nice shot that snaps Lanier's head back.

Bass scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Bass connects with a solid leg kick.
Bass lands a nice leg kick that just misses Lanier's sensitive parts.

and Bass counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Lanier keeping moving, preventing Bass from controlling successfully.
Bass might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Lanier kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Lanier is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Teddy Bass showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Bass digs a good hook to Lanier's body.
Lanier is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Lanier shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Bass feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Lanier's calf.
Bass connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Bass lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Bass thows a body shot but no joy.
Bass scores with a push kick.
Bass goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Bass explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Bass feints and then cracks Lanier's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Lanier down.
Crunch! Bass slams his shin into Lanier's torso.

Bass decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Bass throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Lanier shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Bass counters with a head kick. That will keep Lanier thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Bass breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Bass is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Lanier rather than just go for the knockout.
Bass thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Lanier if he has to take too many more of those.
Bass has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Bass scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Lanier doesn't seem bothered though.
Bass throws a head kick but Lanier moves out of range.
Bass throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Lanier.
Lanier will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.
Lanier gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Bass.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Lanier. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Bass throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bass throws a right and a left that both miss.
Bass moves in looking to clinch but Lanier pushes him off.

Bass closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Andrew Lanier has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lanier has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bass is working away from the top position though.

And that's the end of the fight!
Teddy Bass comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Bass has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
