PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Jones (ranked 2248 p4p, 3162 weight class) and Dexter Mallin (ranked 292 p4p, 377 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jon Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Dexter Mallin!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Jonathan Paton and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mallin tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jones was well out of range. Poor timing from Mallin.
Dexter Mallin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mallin throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown but Mallin manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jones's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Mallin only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Mallin throws a head kick that misses.

Mallin lands a leg kick that knocks Jones off balance momentarily.
Jones keeps the fight on the outside.
Jones definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Jones moves out of range as Mallin throws a body kick.
Jones takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Mallin, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Mallin against the cage but Mallin circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Jones gets a clinch.
Jones pushes off an throws an elbow but Mallin leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Still in the clinch, Mallin scores with a nice short uppercut.
Jones tries to score a body lock takedown but Mallin shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones looks to throw an elbow but misses.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Jones has picked Mallin up - he's going for a ride! Jones dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Jones seems to be looking for submissions.

Mallin trying to hold on to Jones's head to control him but Jones postures up.
Jones throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Mallin tries to get to full guard but Jones has control of the leg.
Mallin is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Jones scores with a couple of nice shots.
Jones not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Mallin is looking to control Jones's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mallin avoid being mounted?
Mallin tries to roll over but Jones keeps him under control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mallin is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Jones scores with a couple of nice shots.

Jones is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Mallin trying to hold on to Jones's head to control him but Jones postures up.
Mallin is looking to escape.
Jones looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Jones prevents Mallin from improving his position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Jones looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Jones seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Jones wants to control but Mallin is keeping him busy.
Mallin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jones is working away from the top position though.

Mallin looking for submissions off his back.

Jones is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mallin is just riding it out for now. Jones eventually gives up the hold.

Ground and pound from Jones.

Jones is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Mallin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Jones.
Jones has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Jones looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mallin pushes Jones off looking to stand but Jones dives back in and keeps control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Jones dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Mallin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jones is working away from the top position though.

Jones is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mallin can do to turn this around?
Jones is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Mallin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mallin is trying to stand back up but Jones is controlling him

Jones is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Mallin is not content to let Jones control the position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mallin can do anything to dispel that myth.

Jones decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mallin enables Jones to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mallin manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Jones won't allow Mallin to sweep him here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mallin keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.

Jones is keen to just control but Mallin is a slippery customer.

Jones wants to work for an arm triangle but Mallin is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Jones working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Jon Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jones looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mallin with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Jones is trying to work for a kimura but Mallin is defending well.

Jones in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Mallin tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Jones!
