Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between John Joe Smith (ranked 890 p4p, 976 weight class) and Mick Taylor (ranked 69 p4p, 75 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Joe Smith!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mick Taylor!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Viktor Lagutenko and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slow jab from Smith misses its intended target.

Smith avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Taylor lands a nice looking body shot.
Smith takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Taylor tries for a takedown but Smith circles away easily
and Smith counters with a straight right hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smith looks to land a left hand but Taylor moved out of range nicely.
We've been told by Smith's head coaches at Hammer House of Horror that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Taylor takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Smith throws a hook but Taylor blocks it.
Taylor changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Smith works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Smith loads up on a big right hand but Taylor slips the punch.
Taylor is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Taylor has closed the distance and engaged Smith in a clinch.
Taylor lands an uppercut.
Smith wants to get back to striking at distance but Taylor won't allow it.

Taylor throws a big shot that misses.
Sloppy strikes from Smith. Those never looked like landing.
Smith throws out a loose jab but Taylor uses good head movement to avoid it.

and Taylor counters with a nice double leg into guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Taylor felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Taylor is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Taylor gets back to half guard.
Taylor has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Smith is working away from the top position though.
Taylor is trying to control but Smith manages to pass to mount!
Smith prevents Taylor from getting the reversal.

Taylor wants to hold on but Smith pushes him away.
Taylor can't escape the position.
Taylor tries to hold on but Smith pushes him away.
Taylor might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Smith haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Taylor slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Taylor wants to improve his position but Smith is controlling well.

Taylor is trying to control but can't.
Taylor is controlling Smith's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Taylor tries to reverse the position but Smith maintains control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Taylor reaches up to try and control the position but Smith seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Taylor rolls and tries to escape and now Smith has his back!
Smith has the hooks in. Taylor is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Taylor is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Taylor has closed the distance and engaged Smith in a clinch.
Taylor lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Smith looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
A nice right hand lands inside from Taylor.
Smith wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
A nice left hand lands by Taylor.

Smith throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.

and Taylor makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Taylor tries to close the distance and clinch but Smith swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Smith counters with a good, hard body kick but Taylor shrugs it off.
Taylor throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Smith throws an overhand right that lands on Taylor's shoulder, as Taylor tries to avoid the shot.
Taylor lands a glancing blow to the side of Smith's head.

A looping hook to the body misses from Smith. Taylor does a little dance to reset his feet.

Smith throws a big shot that misses.
Taylor throws out a counter right but Smith avoids it with no problem.
Smith misses the shot to the body.
Smith connects with a crisp jab.
Smith scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Smith ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Taylor moves away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
The fighters circle momentarily. Smith darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Taylor moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Taylor uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Smith.
Taylor now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Smith throws a hook to the side of Taylor's head but Taylor sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Taylor! But no joy.
Smith's corner calls for a 1-2. Smith obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

and Taylor counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

and Taylor cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Smith lands with a cross.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Smith is trying to force a seperation but Taylor has the dominant position.

Taylor keeps control of Smith as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Smith breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Taylor ducks under a wild hook from Smith.
Taylor shoots in for a takedown but Smith shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Smith cracks Taylor with a right hand to the side of the head.
Smith misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Taylor.

A decent looking cross lands there for Smith.

Smith jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Taylor swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

The fighters circle momentarily. Taylor darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith throws a hook but Taylor blocks it.

Taylor closes the distance and clinches up with Smith, looking for a takedown. Taylor pushes Smith against the cage but Smith circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

John Joe Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mick Taylor.

I would just about give that final round to Mick Taylor.
