Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Swole Ricky Martin (ranked 20 p4p, 105 weight class) and Gwynn Evans (ranked 5 p4p, 16 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Swole Ricky Martin!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gwynn Evans!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martin darts in trying to clinch
and Evans counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Martin forces Evans back against the cage and clinches.
Martin blocks a body shot from Evans.
Martin's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Evans working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Evans goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nice body punch from Evans - that landed with a thud.
Martin working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Martin wants to stall.
Martin misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Evans can't break the clinch.

Martin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Evans throws a shot to the body.
Martin checks a low kick from Evans.
Evans just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromMartin.
Martin takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Evans darts in and clinches Martin up against the cage.
Martin is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Martin blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Martin is leaning against Evans and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Martin blocks an uppercut.
Martin throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Evans struggles to land a body shot inside as Martin controls his hands.
Martin misses with a punch to the body.
A right hand to the body from Martin.
Evans looks winded!
Martin lands a body shot in the clinch.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Martin.
A short body shot lands from Martin as the two fighters clinch.

Martin digs a right hand underneath Evans's ribcage. Evans let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Martin cracks Evans with a nice body shot.

Martin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Martin thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Evans if he has to take too many more of those.
Martin misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Martin lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Martin - that will leave a mark!

Martin has Evans up against the cage in a clinch.
Evans blocks a body shot from Martin.
Martin lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Martin takes a shot to the head.
Martin tries to work over Evans's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Nice body punch from Martin.
Martin misses with a hook to the ribs.
Martin presses Evans against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
I was talking to Martin's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Martin digs a right hand underneath Evans's ribcage. Evans let out a lung full of air as it connected.

Martin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Martin ducks under a wild hook from Evans.
A nice inside leg kick there by Martin. That's going to slow Evans down.
A swing and a miss from Martin.
Evans steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Martin tries to clinch
and Evans counters with a straight right hand.

Martin feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Evans sprawling to the canvas! Evans rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Martin finish him?!

It looks like Gwynn Evans has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

and Martin makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

A big left from Evans misses.
Martin tries to work over Evans's front leg with a kick but Evans checks it.

Martin cracks Evans with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Martin has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Evans to stand back up!
Martin tries to clinch there but Evans circles away.
Martin is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Evans flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Evans is out cold! Martin holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Swole Ricky Martin!
