PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Darstknasset Oystenteller (ranked 801 p4p, 922 weight class) and Luke Jackson (ranked 88 p4p, 99 weight class). Oystenteller comes to the cage accompanied by "You're Having My Baby" by Paul Anka. Luke Jackson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Darstknasset Oystenteller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Luke Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Aleksandr Martynov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oystenteller throws a right hand that misses
and Jackson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Oystenteller displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jackson throws out the jab.
Oystenteller's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Jackson connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Oystenteller scrambles back to his feet.
Jackson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Oystenteller shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Oystenteller was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Jackson is pushing Oystenteller's head away, looking to escape. Oystenteller manages to hold on to the position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Oystenteller is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Jackson tries to improve position but can't.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Oystenteller is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Jackson has escaped the position, nice work there.

Jackson parries the strikes from Oystenteller easily there. Oystenteller is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Jackson to escape.
Jackson pushes Oystenteller away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Oystenteller gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Jackson is looking to regain half guard here but Oystenteller keeps moving and retains side control.

Jackson felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
You can see the frustration on Jackson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Jackson is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Oystenteller asserts his dominance and retains side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Darstknasset Oystenteller will probably get the nod.
That's time! Oystenteller's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Oystenteller is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Jackson pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Jackson is trying to force a seperation but Oystenteller has the dominant position.
Jackson tries to break the clinch but Oystenteller is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jackson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Jackson scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Oystenteller doesn't seem bothered though.

Jackson might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Jackson pushes Oystenteller off looking to stand but Oystenteller dives back in and keeps control.

Darstknasset Oystenteller overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Oystenteller slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Oystenteller has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Jackson has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Oystenteller.

Jackson manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Oystenteller keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Oystenteller jumps guard but Jackson stands there with Oystenteller around his waist. Oystenteller gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Luke Jackson will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Jackson swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

and Oystenteller makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Oystenteller uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Jackson.
Jackson chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Oystenteller can pounce on him.

Oystenteller shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Jackson manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Jackson pulls Oystenteller in close to prevent any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jackson controls Oystenteller momentarily but Oystenteller frees himself.
Jackson wants to get back to his feet but Oystenteller is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Oystenteller throws a strike but Jackson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Oystenteller seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Oystenteller is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jackson wants to stand but Oystenteller has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Luke Jackson seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Jackson misses with an uppercut. Oystenteller saw that one coming.

Jackson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Oystenteller.

Jackson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jackson throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Oystenteller appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Jackson throws a hook but Oystenteller blocks it.
Jackson cracks Oystenteller with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Oystenteller throws out a loose jab but Jackson uses good head movement to avoid it.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Darstknasset Oystenteller. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

An out of breath Luke Jackson thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
The defeated Darstknasset Oystenteller had this to say: 'No worries! The Athletic Commission has just announced my opponent tested positive for illegal steroids again, so this fight has been declared a No-Contest. Thank you to those of us who continue to fight clean!'.
