PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Will Trapp (ranked 3163 p4p, 3110 weight class) and Kiba Yamasaki (ranked 219 p4p, 216 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Kiba Yamasaki was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Will Trapp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kiba Yamasaki!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yamasaki fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Yamasaki smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Yamasaki missing with a left hand there. Trapp was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
A counter left hand to the body from Trapp misses its target.
A lazy left from Yamasaki finds it's target.
Kiba Yamasaki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yamasaki lands a head shot.
Yamasaki works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Trapp seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Trapp fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Yamasaki manages to avoid it.
Trapp moves out of range as Yamasaki strikes.
It looked like Trapp was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Yamasaki.

Trapp takes a swing at Yamasaki's ribcage but misses.
A nice side step and Yamasaki releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Trapp with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Yamasaki to score with a decent uppercut.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Yamasaki is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Trapp had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush.
Yamasaki cracks Trapp with a good jab.
Trapp has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Yamasaki finds it's way round the side to connect with Trapp's head.
Yamasaki shoots in looking for a takedown. Trapp tries to sprawl out of it but Yamasaki keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Trapp manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Trapp fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Yamasaki looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Yamasaki throws an overhand right that lands on Trapp's shoulder, as Trapp tries to avoid the shot.

Trapp is looking to wear down Yamasaki with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Trapp moves out of range of the strikes.
Yamasaki loads up on a big right hand but Trapp slips the punch.
Trapp takes a swing at Yamasaki's ribcage but misses.

An attempted straight right counter from Trapp misses the target.

Trapp takes one on the button.
Yamasaki slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Yamasaki throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Yamasaki catches Trapp with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Yamasaki bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Trapp's head backwards.

Yamasaki closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Trapp did well to prevent Yamasaki getting side control.
Trapp tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Trapp is pressing down on Yamasaki's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Trapp throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Yamasaki lands a nice short elbow.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Yamasaki looks to land a left hand but Trapp moved out of range nicely.

A quick step to the side and Trapp tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Trapp gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Trapp is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Yamasaki presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Yamasaki is working for takedown but Trapp is calmly controlling the position for now.

Yamasaki looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Trapp with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Trapp is looking for a sweep. Yamasaki is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Yamasaki is nestled in close to Trapp, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Trapp has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Yamasaki is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Trapp.

Kiba Yamasaki showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

The fighters circle momentarily. Yamasaki darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Trapp takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Yamasaki.

Trapp sneaks out the side door and pushes Yamasaki away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Trapp lands a nice hook to Yamasaki's body. Yamasaki takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

I've got Yamasaki winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
