PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Diaz (ranked 25505 p4p, 2886 weight class) and Ethan Fleming (ranked 327 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ricardo Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ethan Fleming!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz throws a head kick but Fleming moves out of range.
Diaz sets himself, and Fleming steps forward looking for the clinch! Diaz avoids it this time.

Fleming dives in and scores a takedown into Diaz's guard.
Diaz wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Fleming manages to pass to side control.

Fleming is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Diaz!
Diaz is looking to get to half guard.
Diaz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fleming on the ground.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Diaz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fleming has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Diaz has managed to get both his arms back between Fleming's legs - danger averted.
Diaz has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Fleming drops back, looking for a kneebar! Diaz looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Diaz looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Diaz!

Diaz wants to stand but Fleming is controlling his arm.
Fleming is looking to regain half guard here but Diaz keeps moving and retains side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Diaz tries to stand but Fleming is controlling his head.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ethan Fleming showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Fleming shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Diaz's guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fleming throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Diaz counters with a straight right hand.
Fleming tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Diaz paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Fleming has a takedown stuffed.
Diaz tries to close the distance and clinch but Fleming swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Fleming keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ricardo Diaz.
I think Fleming has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
