Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Diego Lopes (ranked 5575 p4p, 4056 weight class) and Ilia Topuria (ranked 324 p4p, 264 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Lopes might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Por Mi Mexico Remix. Ilia Topuria has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Diego Lopes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ilia Topuria!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Ren Mimura and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Topuria changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lopes tries to avoid it but Topuria manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lopes to the ground. Lopes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Topuria displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Lopes throws out the jab.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Topuria is defended easily by Lopes.
As Topuria looks to move away, Lopes throws a big counter combo but Topuria just gets out of the way.
Lopes cracks Topuria with a right hand to the side of the head.
Lopes looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Topuria looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lopes is fending him off so far but Topuria persists. Nope, Lopes circles away and we're back to standing.
Lopes is looking to counter punch.
Diego Lopes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ilia Topuria.
Lopes swings for the body but Topuria moves out of range.
Topuria lands an overhand right.
Lopes throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Topuria sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Lopes fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Topuria gets control of Lopes's arms and successfully pulls guard. Topuria will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Lopes postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Topuria is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Lopes, into his guard.
Topuria wants to pass the guard but Lopes is keeping the position.
Topuria really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lopes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Lopes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Topuria is aware though and is defending well.

Lopes looking for a guillotine here but Topuria defends easily.
Topuria stays in close to Lopes's body and controls the position.
Topuria stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lopes swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Topuria slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Topuria must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Lopes is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Topuria is aware though and is defending well.
Lopes has a closed guard, preventing Topuria from standing up.
Lopes looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Topuria loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Topuria seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Lopes can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Topuria controls the pace.
Lopes avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Topuria is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

That was a close round but I would say that Diego Lopes will probably get the nod.

Topuria shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lopes as he jumps to the side.
Lopes tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Lopes keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Jab, jab by Lopes - just one landing.
Lopes wants to clinch up but Topuria keeps it at a distance.

Lopes leaves Topuria with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Diego Lopes is winning the standup battle so far.
Lopes tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
As Lopes backs off Topuria throws a huge counter combo but Lopes manages to avoid it all.
No joy there for Lopes, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Topuria clinches with his opponent.
Topuria breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Lopes tries to pull guard but Topuria holds him up against the cage and eventually Lopes drops back down to his feet.

Topuria tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Lopes gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Topuria.
Lopes is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Topuria can do to turn this around?

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Lopes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lopes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Topuria controls Lopes momentarily but Lopes frees himself.
Lopes with a flurry of punches that miss.
Lopes with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Lopes drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Topuria manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Lopes has Topuria in his guard.
Topuria content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Lopes has locked up a guillotine! Lopes's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Topuria is holding on here and Lopes must be using up a lot of energy. Topuria has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Lopes gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
