Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Brendan Mccoy (ranked 3358 p4p, 4164 weight class) and Walter Vargas (ranked 366 p4p, 438 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Vargas's choice of entrance music: Long Runs the Fox. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Walter Vargas enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mccoy bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Mccoy slows the pace down.
Vargas is not content to let Mccoy control the position.
Mccoy happy to just control the position for now.
Vargas can't do much from the bottom here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mccoy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Vargas, who protects the arm well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Vargas is not content to let Mccoy control the position.
Vargas takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Mccoy is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Vargas is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Vargas is refusing to be controlled, as Mccoy sits in half guard.
Mccoy is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Vargas!
Mccoy manages to capitalize on a mistake by Vargas to take his back!
Mccoy lands a couple of good shots to his opponent's body and a final shot to the head. Good little attack there by Mccoy.
Mccoy gets his hooks in and is throwing strikes.
Vargas is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Mccoy is looking for a rear naked choke here but Vargas reverses the position brilliantly into Mccoy's guard!

Mccoy has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Vargas wants to control from the top but Mccoy keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mccoy throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Vargas tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mccoy is in Vargas's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mccoy stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vargas swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Mccoy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Mccoy is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Vargas can do to turn this around?
Mccoy throws a strike but Vargas rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Mccoy wants to stand and escape but Vargas is having none of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Mccoy shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Vargas steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Mccoy.
Mccoy takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Mccoy gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Vargas.
Vargas lands with a hook. Mccoy tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Vargas connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Mccoy's hands.
Walter Vargas seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Mccoy shoots for a takedown but Vargas saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Vargas is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Oh Mccoy is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Vargas is pawing at Mccoy, trying to feel the distance before throwing out a cross that crashes into Mccoy's nose. Mccoy is badly hurt! Vargas pounces, throwing wild strikes as both fighters end up on the ground! Mccoy tries desperately to hold on but Vargas is relentless in his assault! As Mccoy receives an ever increasing number of unanswered strikes the referee pulls Vargas away and this one is in the books!
