PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tre Davis (ranked 4114 p4p, 4124 weight class) and Mason Hawkins Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawkins Jr is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by It’s Not Unsual. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tre Davis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mason Hawkins Jr!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Davis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hawkins Jr pinned against the cage. Hawkins Jr gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Davis tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Hawkins Jr is able to avoid easily.
Hawkins Jr is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Davis scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Hawkins Jr tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Davis manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Hawkins Jr takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Davis fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hawkins Jr sprawls well initially but Davis persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Hawkins Jr manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hawkins Jr drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Davis gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Hawkins Jr goes for a takedown attempt but Davis pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Horrible takedown attempt by Davis or perhaps it was just good defense by Hawkins Jr, which made it look bad.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Hawkins Jr shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Davis sprawls well. Davis wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hawkins Jr gets slowly back to his feet.

A close round but Mason Hawkins Jr will probably get the nod.
That's time! Davis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Hawkins Jr is looking to take a break and control but Davis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Hawkins Jr seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Davis is staying active underneath Hawkins Jr, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Tre Davis will probably get the nod.

Davis has his foot on Hawkins Jr's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hawkins Jr works his way back into a safe position though.

Hawkins Jr thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

As Hawkins Jr looks to move away, Davis throws a big counter combo but Hawkins Jr just gets out of the way.

Hawkins Jr shoots for a takedown but Davis saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hawkins Jr tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Davis counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Davis crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Hawkins Jr - the referee stops the clock and Davis gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Hawkins Jr. Davis manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Davis stuffs the takedown.
Hawkins Jr shoots in but Davis avoids the takedown attempt easily.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Davis.

Hawkins Jr swings for the body but Davis moves out of range.

Davis shoots in but Hawkins Jr avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Davis sets himself, and Hawkins Jr steps forward looking for the clinch! Davis avoids it this time.
Hawkins Jr tries to close the distance and clinch but Davis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Hawkins Jr clinches with his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Mason Hawkins Jr.
I think Hawkins Jr has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
