Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mark Beneke (ranked 2324 p4p, 1687 weight class) and Koba Takanori (ranked 272 p4p, 211 weight class). Koba Takanori has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Mark Beneke's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Beneke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Koba Takanori!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Topper Green and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beneke fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Takanori appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Beneke thows a left - swing and a miss!
Takanori thinks about the counter body kick.

Beneke shoots in looking for a takedown but Takanori manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Beneke's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Beneke digs a good body shot into Takanori's ribs.

and Takanori counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Beneke walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Takanori checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Beneke uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Takanori.

Beneke looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Takanori is fending him off so far but Beneke persists. Nope, Takanori circles away and we're back to standing.

Beneke changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Takanori tries to avoid it but Beneke manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Takanori to the ground. Takanori escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Mark Beneke seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Beneke throws a nice looking combination but Takanori bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Beneke smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Beneke closes the distance and clinches up with Takanori, looking for a takedown. Beneke pushes Takanori against the ropes but Takanori circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
It seemed like Takanori was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Beneke moves out of range of the body kick from Takanori.
Beneke is looking to score with low kicks.
Beneke shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Takanori but Takanori pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Beneke's corner calls for a 1-2. Beneke obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Beneke darts in looking for a takedown but Takanori gets double underhooks and turns Beneke into the ropes.

Takanori lands a good knee to the midsection. Beneke won't want to take too many of those.

Takanori drops back, looking for a kneebar! Beneke looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Beneke looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Beneke!

Takanori tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Beneke cranks the arm and Takanori screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Takanori, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 8:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Mark Beneke!
Mark Beneke was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
