PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Try Again (ranked 4133 p4p, 3940 weight class) and Night Fright (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Try Again!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Night Fright!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Nard Betker and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Again with a poor takedown
and Fright cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Left hook, right uppercut from Again.
Again looks to clinch
and Fright counters with a good low kick that Again was not able to check.
Fright blocks the body kick.
Fright feints a counter leg kick.
Again shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Fright counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Again with a poor takedown
and Fright counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Try Again. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fright tries a quick counter leg kick but Again is wise to it.

Again rushes Fright and presses him up against the cage.

Fright breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Again clinches with his opponent.
Again trying to land knees to the body.
Again misses with a punch to the body.
Fright lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.

Fright is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Fright lands a shoulder strike.
Again stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Fright scores with a nice hook to the head.
Again is trying to pull guard but Fright has him pressed against the cage.
Fright prevents a takedown attempt there.
Again tries to pull guard but Fright forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Fright breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Again tries to bum rush Fright with a series of wild strikes but Fright uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Fright swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Again tries for a takedown but Fright circles away easily
and Fright counters with a nice body shot.
Again is breathing heavily.
Again misses with a combination
and Fright counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Again closes the distance but Fright moves to the side
and Fright counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Again throws a poor cross that misses
and Fright counters with a nice uppercut.
Again misses with a takedown
and Fright cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Fright swats away the attempt to clinch by Again.
Fright only half commits to the counter leg kick.
Fright circles away from the clinch attempt

and Fright counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Again!
Again tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Oooh a big shot gets through from Fright. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Night Fright dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Again fails with the takedown

and Fright counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fright postures up in Again's guard and throws a big left but Again blocks it.
Again looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Fright puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Fright lands a nice short elbow.
Fright is trying to control. Again wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Fright takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fright wants to lay and pray for a moment but Again keeps working.
Again taking some punishment here, with Fright in his half guard.

Fright lands with a punch from half guard.
Again might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Fright scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Again tries to get to full guard but Fright has control of the leg.
Fright has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Fright has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Again tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Fright has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fright has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Again's face.

Fright is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Fright can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Again is looking to escape.
Again is bucking up trying to escape but Fright cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Again tries to reverse the position but Fright maintains control.
Fright lands a big shot there that rocks Again but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
BOOM! Fright connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Again is rocked!
A nice elbow there by Fright.
Oh Again is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Fright scoring with strikes but Again is staying in there.
Fright trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Again seems to have got his legs back now.
Fright lands a big elbow.
Again is desperately trying to improve his position but Fright has a good base and remains in mount.
Again is working hard here to advance position.

Night Fright has got the better of the ground game so far.

Fright won't let Again get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Fright wants to control the pace but Again is squirming around nicely.
Fright with shots to the head and body - Again looks very uncomfortable down there.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Fright working the ground and pound effectively.
Again is squirming around, avoiding Fright's attempts to control the action.

Night Fright showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Night Fright is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Try Again is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Fright looks like he wants to counter punch here.

and Fright counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Fright is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Again wants to control the position but Fright says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Fright is trying to control. Again wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Fright is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Again tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Fright paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Fright counters by moving into the clinch.
Fright lands a body punch.
Again working hard to break the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fright digs a right hand into Again's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Again's gas tank.

Fright breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

And that's the end of the fight!
Night Fright comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Fright has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
