The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Merchant takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Clubber has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Clubber misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Merchant tries to counter with a takedown but Clubber is quick to defend against it.

Clubber is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Clubber tries to land a front kick but Merchant steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Clubber throws the kick towards the body but Merchant avoids it.
Clubber ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Clubber! But no joy.
Clubber ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Merchant moves away.
Merchant appears to be looking for a counter takedown.

It looks like Devon Merchant has been cut.
We've been hearing reports that Merchant has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Clubber throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Merchant's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Clubber dives in looking to finish as Merchant flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Clubber's strikes! Clubber is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Merchant's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Merchant was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
