Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gord Downey (ranked 4428 p4p, 3253 weight class) and Morgan Freeman (ranked 283 p4p, 224 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Gord Downey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Morgan Freeman!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Sandra Marshall and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Downey closes the distance and pushes Freeman back into the cage.

Downey has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Freeman regains guard immediately.
Downey pushing down on Freeman's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Downey missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Freeman has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Freaky Fight Club. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Freeman is looking for a sweep. Downey is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Downey looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Freeman is refusing to be controlled, as Downey sits in half guard.
Downey wants to advance to full mount but Freeman doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Downey controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Freeman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Downey's guard.

Downey looking to hit a scissor sweep but Freeman is one step ahead there.
Freeman is looking to advance position but Downey has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Freeman tries to hold on but Downey postures up.
Downey definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Downey throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Downey looking to control but Freeman is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Freeman wants to hold on but Downey pushes him away.
Freeman is squirming around, avoiding Downey's attempts to control the action.
Downey misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Downey wants to control the pace but Freeman is squirming around nicely.
Downey takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Downey is really struggling to control Freeman but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Freeman is working to get back to half guard.
Freeman holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Downey tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.

Downey wants to control the pace but Freeman is squirming around nicely.
Freeman is wriggling around trying to escape.

Gord Downey dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Freeman misses with an uppercut. Downey saw that one coming.

Freeman shoots in and bounces Downey off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Downey is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Downey trying to keep a closed guard but Freeman is proving a slippery customer.
Downey is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Freeman can do to turn this around?

Downey is trying to control the position but Freeman postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Downey doesn't manage to clinch there - Freeman circles away.

Gord Downey overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Downey wants to free his trapped foot but Freeman is holding on for dear life with his legs.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Downey connects with a nice short shot to Freeman's temple.

Freeman is controlling Downey's trapped leg to prevent Downey from advancing to side control.
Downey wants to control but Freeman is keeping him busy.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Downey fails with an attempt to clinch.

Freeman shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Downey is trying to defend but Freeman finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The fight stays on the outside here - Downey looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Freeman shoots for a takedown but Downey saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Freeman shoots in looking for a takedown. Downey tries to sprawl out of it but Freeman keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Downey manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Downey throws out a loose jab but Freeman uses good head movement to avoid it.
Downey leaves Freeman with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Gord Downey.
Well Downey has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
