PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jean Du Pont (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Sheen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sheen comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Mighty Ducks kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jean Du Pont!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marcus Sheen!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Gregory Folan and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sheen shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sheen showed some decent athleticism there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sheen is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Du Pont doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Sheen.
Sheen wants to control but Du Pont is keeping him busy.

Sheen is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Du Pont has managed to free his arm - good work.

Du Pont is pressing down on Sheen's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Du Pont has his foot on Sheen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Sheen works his way back into a safe position though.

Du Pont escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sheen gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Sheen works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Sheen trying to mount his opponent but Du Pont defends it.
Du Pont trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Sheen manages to pass to mount!
Sheen prevents Du Pont from getting the reversal.
Sheen fails to move to back control.
Du Pont tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Sheen working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Sheen is trying to work for a kimura but Du Pont is defending well.
Du Pont is looking to improve his position.
Du Pont desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Sheen throwing shots but Du Pont is blocking nicely.
Sheen is looking to take a break and control but Du Pont is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Sheen is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Sheen counters with a lovely shot to the body.

and Sheen counters with a nice double leg into side control. Du Pont won't be happy with that.
Du Pont is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Sheen slips a nice elbow through Du Pont's hands, connecting with Du Pont's forehead.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcus Sheen dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Sheen throws a nice looking combination but Du Pont bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Du Pont tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sheen wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Sheen goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Du Pont rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Sheen's guard! Nice work there by Du Pont!

Sheen has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Du Pont is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Sheen.

Sheen is staying active underneath Du Pont, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sheen lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Du Pont!
Du Pont wants to hold on but Sheen pushes him away.

Sheen lands a big shot there that rocks Du Pont but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Du Pont can't escape the position.

Sheen is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Du Pont is surviving well by controlling Sheen's body position as best he can.

Marcus Sheen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Sheen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Du Pont is just riding it out for now. Sheen eventually gives up the hold.
Du Pont pushes Sheen off looking to stand but Sheen dives back in and keeps control.
Sheen is just content to waste time from the top position. Du Pont takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Du Pont swings for the body but Sheen moves out of range.
Du Pont on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Du Pont throws a head kick that misses.
Du Pont darts in trying to clinch

so Sheen counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Du Pont has momentary wrist control but Sheen slips an elbow through the middle.
Du Pont wants to stand but Sheen is controlling the position.

Du Pont has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sheen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Well Sheen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
