PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Schoonie Jenkins (ranked 3454 p4p, 3084 weight class) and Jayne Gill (ranked 399 p4p, 356 weight class). Jayne Gill told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Schoonie Jenkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jayne Gill!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Richard Clark and Paul Tew.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jenkins throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Jenkins connects with an inside leg kick.
Gill drops his hands momentarily and Jenkins takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Gill misses with a straight right.
Gill checks a leg kick.
Gill lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Jenkins feints and then cracks Gill's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Gill down.
Jenkins misses the shot to the body.
Gill moves out of range as Jenkins throws a body kick.
Jenkins takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

It looks like Schoonie Jenkins has been cut.
A nice inside leg kick there by Jenkins. That's going to slow Gill down.
Jenkins thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Gill if he has to take too many more of those.
A head kick from Jenkins lands but Gill takes it in his stride.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gill chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Jenkins can pounce on him.

Gill lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Jenkins circles away quickly and effectively.

and Gill counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jenkins won't be happy with that.
Jenkins is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Rabid Dog , so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Gill throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Gill connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Jenkins some visible discomfort.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gill misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Gill is trying to control Jenkins's posture but Jenkins avoids it.

Gill tries to strike but it doesn't land.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gill regains half guard there - taking advantage of Jenkins's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.

Jenkins perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Gill tries to get to full guard but Jenkins has control of the leg.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Gill is trying to hold Jenkins in close to prevent damage but Jenkins has managed to pass into half guard.

Gill takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Schoonie Jenkins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gill connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Jenkins's hands.

Jenkins fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Gill looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Jenkins quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Jenkins cracks Gill with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

and Gill cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Gill lands a nice hook to Jenkins's body. Jenkins takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
That kick from Jenkins tenderised Gill's leg. Gill is trying to keep his angry face on.

Jenkins thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Gill if he has to take too many more of those.

Jenkins dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Gill. That did some damage!
Gill avoids the body shot from Jenkins.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Gill! But no joy.

Gill tries to bum rush Jenkins with a series of wild strikes but Jenkins uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
It looked like Jenkins was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Gill.
Gill swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Gill connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Gill works the jab nicely.
Jenkins turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Despite the aggression on Gill's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Jenkins.
Gill missing with a left hand there. Jenkins was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Gill has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Jenkins.
Jenkins rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gill moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
