PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Darren Will (ranked 5349 p4p, 2991 weight class) and Mitch McGee (ranked 493 p4p, 0 weight class). McGee has chosen Survivor - Eye of the Tiger as his entrance music. Mitch McGee is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Darren Will!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mitch McGee!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Steven Brown and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Will drives through and clinches with McGee against the cage.

Will breaks from the clinch.
Will definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Will takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
McGee looks to land a combination but Will avoids it well.
Will is looking to counter punch.
McGee fails to land with a series of punches.
McGee is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
McGee misses with a wild combination.
McGee misses with a series of wild punches.
A little feinted left hand from Will on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
McGee swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Will counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
McGee has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
McGee drops his hands momentarily and Will takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
McGee throws a combination that misses
and Will counters with a lovely straight right hand!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
McGee misses with a double jab
and Will counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

It looked like Will wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

As McGee looks to move away, Will throws a big counter combo but McGee just gets out of the way.

McGee looks to land a combination but Will avoids it well.

Will was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
McGee throws a nice looking combination but Will bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
McGee lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by McGee.

Will's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Will counters with a series of strikes. McGee will be more careful next time no doubt.

McGee throws a right and a left that Will avoids nicely.

Will makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

McGee swings away with an uppercut that misses.
McGee can't find room to land a body shot as Will controls the action.
McGee is trying to break free.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Will.
Will pushes McGee back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
McGee drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Will gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Darren Will has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mitch McGee.
Will works on McGee's body with a couple of short punches.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
McGee has a couple of punches blocked by Will.
McGee can't break the clinch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Darren Will will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Darren Will's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Will has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
Will lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Will lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

McGee is trying to push Will away but Will has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
McGee misses with a punch on the inside.
McGee can't break the clinch.

McGee looks up at the clock. Bad move! Will lands a right hand from hell, dropping McGee. Will pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Darren Will!
Darren Will decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
