PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nuno Carvalho (ranked 3997 p4p, 4057 weight class) and Billy Binch (ranked 412 p4p, 413 weight class). Binch has chosen W.A.P as his entrance music. Billy Binch will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nuno Carvalho!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Billy Binch!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carvalho misses with a takedown attempt - Binch sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Binch tries to counter with a clinch but Carvalho shakes him off and moves away.

Carvalho gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Binch prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nuno Carvalho. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Carvalho has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Binch avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Binch tries to stall but Carvalho uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Carvalho's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Carvalho seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Binch for as long as he can get away with.
Binch wants to get back to full guard.
Still in half guard, Carvalho seems content to control.

Carvalho seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Carvalho closes the distance and pushes Binch back into the cage.
Binch's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Carvalho tries for a takedown. No joy.

Binch is fighting off a takedown attempt but Carvalho is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Binch to the mat. Binch regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Carvalho working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Binch is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Carvalho is controlling him.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Carvalho's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Binch is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Binch swings wildly with an uppercut but Carvalho uses good head movement to avoid it.
Carvalho can't find room to land a body shot as Binch controls the action.

Carvalho has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Binch regains guard immediately.

Binch can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Carvalho controls the pace.
Binch really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Carvalho. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Carvalho is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Binch tries to close the distance and clinch up but Carvalho swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Carvalho misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Carvalho avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Binch lands a nice looking body shot.

Nuno Carvalho seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Binch lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Carvalho is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Binch can do to turn this around?

A momentary lapse in concentration from Binch enables Carvalho to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Binch manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carvalho stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Binch swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Binch wants to clinch up but Carvalho keeps it at a distance.
Carvalho looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Carvalho sets himself, and Binch steps forward looking for the clinch! Carvalho avoids it this time.
Binch defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Carvalho.

Carvalho closes the distance and pushes Binch back into the cage.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Carvalho takes one to the side of the head.
A looping hook to the body misses from Binch. Carvalho does a little dance to reset his feet.
Binch tries to clinch up but Carvalho circles away and keeps his distance.

Carvalho is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Binch is defending well.
Carvalho prevents a body shot from Binch.
Carvalho changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Binch fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Carvalho moves into range and clinches up with Binch.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Binch is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Binch is trying to slow the pace down but that's a couple of times in a row that he's tried to get underhooks and Carvalho has denied him.

Carvalho manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

We've been hearing that Carvalho has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Carvalho stands and throws Binch's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Binch throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Carvalho, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
