PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Milos Kallisterez (ranked 3001 p4p, 2969 weight class) and Wei Chen (ranked 286 p4p, 283 weight class). Wei Chen will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Milos Kallisterez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Wei Chen!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, John Mangel and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chen fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Chen shoots in and bounces Kallisterez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Chen passes Kallisterez's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Chen working over Kallisterez with some ground and pound. Kallisterez looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Chen is trying to control the action in half guard but Kallisterez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Kallisterez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Kallisterez is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Chen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kallisterez's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kallisterez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Chen wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Kallisterez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Chen is adopting a defensive guard.
Chen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Chen lands a lovely overhand right.
Chen slaps away a takedown attempt from Kallisterez, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kallisterez shoots in for a double leg but Chen sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Chen feints the counter takedown.

Kallisterez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kallisterez showed some decent athleticism there.
Chen wants to improve his position but Kallisterez is controlling well.
Chen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kallisterez is working away from the top position though.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Chen shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kallisterez napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Kallisterez takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Wei Chen has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kallisterez is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Chen thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Kallisterez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Chen wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Kallisterez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Kallisterez tries to get out of the position.
Chen scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Kallisterez to see if he's OK.
Chen grinds an elbow into Kallisterez's temple.
Chen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kallisterez manages to work his way to half guard, despite Chen's best efforts.
Chen is nestled in close to Kallisterez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Kallisterez wants to improve his position but Chen is controlling well.

Chen is looking for a kimura but Kallisterez is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Chen to get the leverage.

Chen is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kallisterez to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kallisterez shrugs it off.

Chen lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
