PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Danny Stewart (ranked 766 p4p, 669 weight class) and David Goldberg (ranked 97 p4p, 83 weight class). Stewart comes to the cage accompanied by Tupac - Hit 'Em Up. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Danny Stewart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Goldberg!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goldberg takes one to the side of the head.
Good standup being displayed there by Stewart as he connects with a hook.
Goldberg misses with a hook. Stewart ducked under it nicely.
Stewart falls off balance throwing a combination

so Goldberg counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Goldberg working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Goldberg is looking to advance position but Stewart has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Goldberg is in all sorts of trouble here.
Goldberg is still trying to improve position.

Stewart stands up from mount. Strange move.

Goldberg decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Stewart avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Goldberg.
Stewart is staying active underneath Goldberg, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Goldberg looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Goldberg is trying to control the action in half guard but Stewart is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Stewart preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Goldberg looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Stewart blocking the ground and pound attempt from Goldberg.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Goldberg seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Stewart does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Goldberg shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Stewart napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Goldberg is pressing down on Stewart's thigh, looking to free his foot. Stewart is holding on for now.

Goldberg misses with a head shot. Stewart uses the momentum to regain guard.
Goldberg stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stewart swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Goldberg postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Goldberg wants to control from the top but Stewart keeps moving.

Goldberg drops back looking for a leg! Stewart is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Stewart manages to kick Goldberg off! Goldberg jumps back into Stewart's guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Goldberg has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Goldberg sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Stewart's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Stewart is looking to escape.
Goldberg seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Stewart does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Stewart gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Goldberg to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Stewart has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Goldberg off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Goldberg looks for a takedown but Stewart sprawls well.

Goldberg dives in and grabs Stewart's left leg, looking for a takedown. Stewart pushes down on Goldberg's head and hops out.
Goldberg takes a swing at Stewart's ribcage but misses.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Goldberg.
Stewart struggling a bit here.
Goldberg is looking to take a break and control but Stewart is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Stewart can't do much from the bottom here.
Stewart tries to bench press Goldberg off him but Goldberg keeps the position.

Goldberg throws an elbow but Stewart slips to the side and avoids it well.
Stewart taking a bit of punishment here - Goldberg scoring with strikes.

Goldberg looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Stewart is staying active underneath Goldberg, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Stewart is refusing to be controlled, as Goldberg sits in half guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Stewart lands with an overhand left.

That's eight minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A jab from Stewart finds it's way through Goldberg's defenses.
Stewart throws a right and a left that both miss.
Stewart misses with a body shot.
Goldberg looks to score with a jab to the body but Stewart is just out of range.
Stewart seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Goldberg walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
A big left from Stewart misses.

Goldberg has managed to clinch.
A short uppercut from Stewart.
Goldberg misses with a short punch on the inside.
Stewart swings away with an uppercut that misses.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Stewart creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

That's nine minutes gone in the round.
Stewart tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Goldberg's elbow.
A hook to the body from Stewart.
Stewart misses with a body punch.
Stewart tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Goldberg's elbow.
The referee is keeping an eye on Goldberg - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Stewart's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Stewart stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Goldberg misses with a hook to the ribs.
Stewart fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Stewart lands with a light punch inside.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Danny Stewart dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Goldberg misses with a takedown attempt - Stewart sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A left lands for Stewart.
