Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Amari Howell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xavier Schmidt!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howell is looking to clinch.
We've been hearing reports that Howell has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Schmidt drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Howell tries to improve position but can't.
Schmidt wants to control but Howell is keeping him busy.
You can see the frustration on Howell's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Howell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Schmidt postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The strikes coming from Schmidt are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Schmidt creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Howell sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Schmidt is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Howell has escaped the position, nice work there.

Schmidt throws a strike aimed at the side of Howell's head but Howell avoids it well.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Schmidt has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Howell defend it? Schmidt steps over the head and cranks it - Howell is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Schmidt!
