PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jon Tully (ranked 4038 p4p, 4106 weight class) and Manuel Bautista (ranked 0 p4p, 259 weight class). Bautista has chosen Reincidentes - Vicio as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Tully!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Manuel Bautista!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tully manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Bautista on his heels. He'll look to pass Bautista's guard now, I'm sure.
Bautista is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tully is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Bautista scores with a couple of nice shots.

Tully kicks Bautista off and gets to his feet.

Tully is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Bautista's half guard.

Tully escapes and gets back to his feet.

Tully rushes Bautista and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Tully seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Bautista for as long as he can get away with.

Tully is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Tully wants to pass the guard but Bautista is keeping the position.
Jon Tully overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Bautista looking for a guillotine here but Tully defends easily.

Tully shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Tully was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Tully tries to move to mount but Bautista blocks the move with his legs.

Tully thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Bautista tries to get to full guard but Tully has control of the leg.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Tully in particular looking to stall.

Tully looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Bautista moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Bautista avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Tully's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Bautista is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Tully sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bautista's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bautista tries to roll over but Tully keeps him under control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Tully closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Bautista tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Tully wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Tully fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Bautista, pushing him back against the cage.

Tully gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tully accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bautista wants to sweep here but Tully controlling him for the moment.
Tully controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Tully's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Bautista tries to buck Tully off but Tully is having none of it.

Bautista is looking to improve his position.
Tully thows a huge punch but Bautista dodges it nicely.
Tully content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Bautista tries to roll over but Tully keeps him under control.
Tully looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Bautista looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Tully tries to pass the half guard into mount. Bautista knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Tully is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Tully pushes Bautista up against the cage in a clinch.

Tully jumps guard and drags Bautista to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Jon Tully is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
